THE MALEDICTIONS

Give me blood and gin for an epitaph

About Me

"Nick Cave meets Johnny Cash..." - THE CINCINNATI ENQUIRER
"With Their Appalachian echoes & imaginative new lyrics, The Malediction's songs reach straight for the audience" -ST. LOUS POST DISPATCH

"Jars you to the strangeness of this American landscape...Deserted fairgrounds, unlit country roads, sawdust floored barrooms, vandalized cemeteries and overstayed debutante balls...Born of inner necessity" -AMAZON.com

"A dark, original slice of Gothic Americana" -iTUNES

"The moods & textures of Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits and Nick Cave" - ST. LOUIS MAGAZINE

Blues, Folk, Country, a dash of Cabaret & lethal doses of vintage 60's Garage Rock---The Malediction's sound has affectionately been described as, "Country Noir" or "Gothic Americana".
"It's all just Folk Music," according to bandleader Kevin Orton, "Maybe aggressive Folk but Folk music at heart...I tend to write songs about people who are un-insured".
The Maledictions have their roots in Orton's 2003 solo album, FEMME NOIR, which featured a number of guest artists including The Violent Femmes' Gordon Gano. Soon after, Orton formed The Maledictions and 2005 saw the release of IDLE HANDS.

Dark, brooding yet perversely optimistic, the band is currently working up a new crop of songs, along with a new EP which promises to be all foul weather & bad directions.
Keep an eye out & an ear to the ground...
