........real pain for my sham friends.

About Me

Been playing since i was 13 yrs old. Influenced by my older brother playing in a smoke-filled, dark acoustic wonderland of a front lounge. Earliest stuff i really remember listening to was Simon and Garfunkel's early albums. Also Roy Harper's Sophisticated Beggar and Fairport Convention's Liege and Lief.Slowly meandering through the Punk rebellion and subsequently trying to get my acoustic to sound like Steve Jones' Les Paul and Joe Strummer's Tele'.Although i've been doing home recording for many years, my upcoming album is the first proper studio effort i've embarked upon to date, recorded in the thriving metropolis of Burnley with the ridiculously talented Mr Smith (Audiofile..look below) at the helm. My passion is for songwriting and making a mark as a respected proponent of the art.Album due for release in the Summer 2007.THE COPYRIGHT IN THE MUSIC ON THIS PAGE IS OWNED BY GARY BINKS. © 2007 GARY BINKS.

Band Members: GARY BINKS – GUITAR and VOCALS........................................ MR SMITH – Lots of session dabblings.
Influences: Many and varied. Dunno where to start but...erm here goes... Richard Thompson, The Clash and a host of other GOOD punk/new wave i listened to as a youngster, such as the often overlooked Gang of Four housing the phenomenal Andy Gill on electric guitar. 'Entertainment' was a soundtrack to my life for a helluva long time and still continues to floor me even now...An AWESOME piece of work. Donovan Leitch, Simon and Garfunkel, Roy Harper (and Nicholas of course), Elvis Costello and all those other quintessentially quirky and brilliant British artists like Andy Partridge, Difford and Tilbrook, Joe Jackson.......Also Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Billy Bragg, Bert Jansch, Steve Tilston, Nick Drake (for his guitar style rather than his lyrics), Dylan, Van Morrison and any other songwriter that has intellect and substance, blah, blah loads more, i could carry on for ages.......so i will. Last few years i've been listening to 'beats' of all kinds, stuff like Martyn Bennett (wherever you are now sweet lad, i love ya for your music), Shooglenifty, Radio Tarifa and all those great folky, beaty outfits. Also more regular or mainstream beats like Aim, Jazzanova and allsorts of Nu-Jazz...as well as Jazz 'full stop', Davis, Coltrane, Mingus, Henderson, Burrell and loads more...i'll add more later........Do we really know who influences us??Sometimes stuff comes through in my writing that i didn't even realise i'd picked up.
Sounds Like: That's not for me to say.

Inside the Mind of a Songwriter

So many today are labelling themselves as songwriters and singer/songwriters. The singer/songwriter boom of the 60's and 70's saw foisted upon the public a plethora of wannabe's trying to be Dylan, or...
