About Me

..
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Richie Furay has been a pioneering force in rock music and country music. A founding member of Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and SHF, he was an innovator of new musical forms, a great songwriter, and last and definitely not least, some of Rock and Roll's best vocals.
Richie Furay started his musical career playing folk clubs in the 1960s. He then made the decision to leave his home in Ohio and make the move to Greenwich Village in New York City. Soon after, Richie was asked to join a folk group that would consist of nine people. The group was called The Au Go Go Singers. One of the members of this group turned out to be Stephen Stills.
After the Au Go Go dream was over, Stephen Stills moved to L.A. and asked Richie to join him. Soon the two young musicians met up with Neil Young, Bruce Palmer, and Dewey Martin. The five of them would join together in 1967 to form the Buffalo Springfield. The group produced three great albums before disbanding in 1968: Buffalo Springfield, Buffalo Springfield Again, and Last Time Around. While working on Last Time Around with Jim Messina, Richie and Jim discovered they wanted to form the same type of group. Poco was born.
Poco was an inovative direction in music. The band recorded some of the first- and best- country rock music of the sixties and seventies. After Randy Meisner (soon to be in The Eagles) and Jim Messina (soon to be in Loggins and Messina) left Poco, the group consited of Rusty Young, George Grantham, Paul Cotton, and Timothy B. Schmit (soon to replace Miesner in The Eagles). Richie left Poco in 1974 to join Chris Hillman (from the Birds) and J.D. Souther to form the group SHF. After two albums with SHF, Richie pursued his solo career.
Richie is currently performing with The Richie Furay Band and has just released a double live CD titled ALIVE. His 2006 studio album, Heartbeat Of Love, includes many of the musicians from Richie’s past. Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, Kenny Loggins, and Chris Hillman…just to name a few. Also, if you want to know more about Richie’s life and musical history, check out two of his books. For What It’s Worth: The Story Of Buffalo Springfield and Pickin Up The Pieces.
Thank you so much for visiting Richie’s myspace. Please send him a message and look for messages from Richie himself in the blog section. God Bless.
