About Me
The Glenwood Smith Band is music composed and arranged by Glenwood Smith (KGS), and performed and recorded with a variety of artists that include friends, family and former and current band mates.
"I am a songwriter. This is my gift and herein lie my true skills as a musician. I am not promoting a band or any individuals' personal talents, although I have tried to acquire the most talented individuals for live performances and recordings to insure the finest quality and success of the song. Because the song is what I am promoting. Because the song is what is important to me. And the song is what survives and continues to live, and to give, long past any band or its creator!" Glenwood Smith
The GSB, from 9-9-99 through the present, has existed predominantly as a recording project with 8 worldwide distributed CDs to show as the result of those years in the studio. Glenwood also provided vocals and keyboards on two other projects during this time; Fly with Jere Stryker, and Believe with Deep South, which also features two of his compositions. Glenwood is currently working on his 9th album, Just Like A Dream, a collection of older material along with some of the newest and best music that he has written. These recordings are only a small portion of Glenwood's compositions whose styles cover many genres: rock, blues, jazz, ballads, Christian, folk, country (and more). One of the greatest challenges of the recording process was deciding which songs to include out of Glenwood's expansive catalog. Each song in these recordings is a requested favorite among Glenwood's listeners. And each song is driven by the skilled musicianship of the most incredible instumentalists and vocalists that Glenwood has worked with.
But, the GSB is more than just good music and more than just a good beat!
Glenwood is a powerful lyricist, as well, who considers his works, "Music with a message in a world deficient of that." His subjects revolve around the issues that are essential to all of humanity; peace, love, understanding and forgiveness. His inspirations are his own true personal experience and conviction. He writes in a style that is both provocative and inspirational. Glenwood is a composer who will have you listening to the words as much as you listen to the music. Both are guaranteed to please and entertain.
"I believe that music is the most powerful form of communication humans have. Music physically and emotionally moves people. Music can stir, inspire and change the listener, as well as find its way into the brain's permanent memory banks. Music is also universal, and the conqueror of human barriers and prejudice. A good song is timeless and can be enjoyed by all!" Glenwood Smith
The GSB started as a dream in the mind of a Virginia Beach teenager while growing up on the Beatles, Steely Dan and Todd Rundgren. In his beginnings, as a church song director, Glenwood was able to play many of his own songs and gained his first audience. Working with a guitarist and fellow songwriter, the first GSB was formed playing for audiences along the east coast. Glenwood, who sings, plays keyboards, acoustic guitar, bass, percussions and woodwinds, then traveled the country performing his music in a wide variety of venues, for as many a diverse crowd of listeners, and always to enthusiastic receptions. Over the years the band has existed in many different forms, with many different names and many different performers. But wherever he has been, and wherever he is, whether playing alone or with a group, the dream of playing original Glenwood Smith compositions has and continues to live and inspire.
"Now in this new century and millennium I have the chance of sharing my songs in a new medium thanks to the help of some of my closest friends and band mates. Thanks to everyone who has been an intricate part of this dream, including you. Thanks for listening!" Glenwood Smith
