About Me

Thanks for stopping by to check out MySpace. I am a session guitarist in Nashville. I have been working in the studio here for over 30 years. I really love playing and especially love coming up with guitar parts for great songs. I am best known for playing electric guitar on all of Garth Brooks records and CDs. Besides Garth I've also recorded and gigged with many great county, pop and folk artists and writers, playing on over 50 number 1 records. I grew up in south Florida and cut my teeth playing R&B, Blues, Latin and Rock in the clubs down there. In 1972 I moved to Nashville to play in a club group here. Through the help of Juan Contrerras, who was managing our group at the time, we met Norbert Putman who owned Quad Recording Studios. This got me on some of my first Nashville sessions and led to a road gig with Dobie Grey in 1974 when "Drift Away" was a hit. My job was to cop all of Reggie Young's great licks that he played on Dobie's records. For me that was like going to "session player college" and I learned a ton about what and what not to play.. Next we got a gig with the classic folk writer and singer, Buffy Sainte Marie. We traveled all over the world with her and it was a great gig. During that period I met "Cowboy" Jack Clement, David Malloy and began my long association with Allen Reynolds. I also started playing on records, my first with Johnny Paycheck, Eddie Rabbitt, and Crystal Gayle. Crystal ended up hiring our band to go on the road and I ended up spending 11 years playing with her, traveling around the world as well as playing on many of her hit records. We also did many TV shows like The Midnight Special (2 times), Solid Gold, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (3 times), Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve (1978) and 2 Network TV Specials. Around 1988 I decided it was time to get off the road and try to do studio work full time. Working with Allen Reynolds I ended up playing on records with Kathy Mattea, Emmy Lou Harris (Richard Bennett co-producing) and Hal Ketchum (Jim Rooney co-producing) as well as many other artists with different producers. Then Allen called me one day to play on a new artist he was working with named Garth Brooks. This started a really incredible relationship which has continued for over 18 years with Garth using the same band on all his CDs (except the Chris Gaines project). During that time we got to make some really great music and Garth became the best selling solo artist ever. Some of the other artists that I've had the pleasure to record with are, Hank Williams Jr., George Strait , Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Tracy Lawrence, Julio Iglesias, Kenny Rogers, Leon Russell, Willie Nelson, Montgomery Gentry, Seals and Croft, , Brewer and Shipley, Dan Seals, Alabama, Richie Furay, Michael Martin Murphey, Trisha Yearwood, Ashley Cleveland, Don Williams, George Jones, Brooks and Dunn, Riders In The Sky, Tanya Tucker, Chris Cagle, Gene Watson, Billy Dean, Billy Burnette, Ian Tyson, Johhny Rodriguez, Olivia Newton John, Marie Osmond, Rita Coolridge, Gary Burr, Gerry House, Philip Claypool, Huey Lewis, Lydia Salnikova, Karyn Rochelle, and Brian White. I am still working on getting "My Space" together and more will be revealed!!
