About Me

Thanks for stopping by…I have been engineering, producing and playing steel guitar for over 30+ years, racking up some fairly diverse credits that run from The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Gladys Knight to Richie Furay to Big Head Todd and the Monsters. I have several Gold and Platinum records, including a Grammy winner, and have worked on Emmy and Ace award winning projects. I am available for work in the Colorado area, as well as in Nashville and Los Angeles (or anywhere else you might like to work…) I am as comfortable working with a seasoned Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as I am a budding singer/songwriter.
I recently re-opened the studio complex I built in the 90’s in southeast Denver, formerly Kerr/Macy Studios (lots a great music made there--The Dirt Band, Leftover Salmon, Opie Gone Bad, Richie Furay, Nina Storey, Celeste Krenz and lots of others). Consisting of three studios, Macy Sound Studios now features the main Studio A with a large tracking room (35x25 with 15 foot ceilings) with three spacious isolation areas and a killer Kawai 7’6” grand piano. Studio B is an overdub/mix suite that will be geared to freelance engineers, and Studio C will be home to Jerome Gilmer, a highly credited and Emmy winning composer/producer/keyboardist with a full array of scoring power. The studio will have both Paris and ProTools systems, along with an outstanding complement of vintage and modern recording gear.
While the studio will be officially open this spring, we are already cranking out projects with the Hickman-Dalton Gang, The Railbenders, a Richie Furay live record, Rebecca Folsom, The Trampolines, Jon Chandler, Kerry and Trevor Conner, Adele Morgan, Steve Crenshaw, Buckskin Stallion, and The Culhanes among others. Some of my other recent projects have included Matt Morris, Halden Woffard and the Hi Beams, Angie Stevens, Richie Furay, George Inai John Croghan and many others.
I play steel guitar around town with Whiskey Trip, Buckskin Stallion and Pete Martinez, and occasionally with George Inai and Kelly Aspen, among others--I will try and keep the calendar somewhat current... I have recorded and toured with artists such as Michael Martin Murphey, Gary Morris, Ricky Skaggs, Richie Furay, Kenny Vaughan, The Railbenders and many others...always available for sessions...

Influences: "The building of a studio is a heavy responsibility, like creating a child. For me, the recording studio is a holy place. A studio is never turned off; perpetually powered up, it has a window on immortality. It is a galaxy of electronic variables and carbon-based elements flying in formation: integrated circuits, relays, transformers, motors, tape, capstans, coils, knobs, sliders, exotic materials, wood and glass, all in the service of music. It is the bridge of our own music-making starship, which it resembles to a remarkable degree. The studio controls us as much as we believe we control it. It is a living, breathing organism that is ever-changing, acoustically, electronically, psychologically. It can be a beast, benign or treacherous. It has a pulse, a voice, an opinion, and a soul. Certainly, from the first moment it is switched on, a studio generates ghosts. It gets sick, tired, it makes funny noises trying to tell us what is wrong. It cries for a kind word or a gentle hand laid on its ailing insides. We nurse each other back to health and service." Jac Holzman--Founder of Elektra Records
