"An exquisitely crafted album that shows off the multiple talents of the singularly named Daria. Daria's songwriting abilities are quite impressive.... profound understanding of Brazilian music is heard to great effect...Feel the Rhythm is a tremendous album that features a wide variety of musical styles. Daria is an outstanding vocal talent, equally facile in straightahead swinging, ballads, and Latin tunes.....In sum, Daria is the real deal."
- All About Jazz
DARIA follows up her critically acclaimed debut album, “Just the Beginning” with an irresistible collection of songs on her new CD, “Feel The Rhythm”. Combining her pure voice and dynamic style with innovative arrangements by Frank Martin and Wayne Wallace, Daria takes you from the thrill of Carnival, with “Feel the Rhythm” (Daria and Frank Martin), to the stirring and sultry “Luiza”(Antonio Carlos Jobim) and the poignant “Fragile” (Sting). With her inimitable passion for music Daria, along with world-renowned musicians Alex Acuña, Jose Neto, William Kennedy and members of the Turtle Island String Quartet, captures the mood of each song and celebrates life. She carves a new path on her latest CD, "Feel the Rhythm" and her compelling vocals move easily between jazz, fusion, pop and world styles, seamlessly blending the sounds into a colorful, pulsating whole. The result is jazz standards and pop tunes spun into something unique. Flowing through a range of Latin rhythms, each arrangement highlights the innovative talents of DARIA and her producers. “On Stevie Wonder’s ‘Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing,’ producer and arranger Wayne Wallace gave it a Take Five influence with a cha-cha beat. I also captured a bit of Carmen McCrae and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, coming up with an interesting mix on that tune. It just turned out that way and I’m very happy with it.”
DARIA is a powerful vocalist, an accomplished jazz singer and talented songwriter. Her compelling vocal style is the culmination of years of study with acknowledged masters of jazz, classical and popular music, including jazz greats Bobby McFerrin and Mark Murphy. Using her three-octave range in exciting and unique rhythmic improvisations, Daria’s voice becomes an instrument. Her silky, sensuous tone, beautiful and hip arrangements create an exciting program which features an eclectic mix of Jazz, Latin, Brazilian and World Rhythms fused with pop and originals. She builds on her solid jazz foundation and deftly breaks new ground, satisfying listeners of all persuasions. Her perfect intonation, new and fresh interpretations and pure musicality are her trademarks.
