Many Thanks to Karlee Foster for the shit-hot poster ____________________________________________________________ _________________ “Somewhere in the deep dark depths of the Tasmanian rainforest – from the fungi of the huon pine - amongst the slime of the cold riverbeds – a freak show was born! The Tasmania that we will reveal is darkly glamorous, beautifully brutal, poignantly fragile and grotesquely hilarious.” ____________________________________________________________ _________________ The Tasmanian Variety Freak Show has been running for three years thanks to the hard work of Emma McIntosh. ____________________________________________________________ _________________ ____________________________________________________________ _________________ Emma McIntosh - Artistic Director & Elspeth McIntosh - General Manager & Joseph Pickett - Producer ____________________________________________________________ ________________ ____________________________________________________________ _________________ ____________________________________________________________ _________________ WHEN: The Tasmanian Variety Freakshow is back in home turf and performing at the Polish Hall in Launceston on Saturday the 26 of April and the Brisbane Hotel in Hobart on the 27 April. My Interests

The Tasmanian Variety Freak Show is back in town from a whirlwind Melbourne tour and appearing for one night each at the Polish Hall in Launceston on Saturday 26 April, and The Brisbane Hotel on Sunday 27 April.Proudly supporting the Tasmanian Devil Appeal, who are raising money to help build disease-free sanctuaries and preserve our healthy Devil population. Circus, music, cabaret and burlesque performers from around Tasmania and abroad unite to bring the Arts event of the year to Tassie audiences.World famous Berlin electro-punk band Die Roten Punkte will appear fresh from headlining the International Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival ‘Intensely Funny’ The Age. Notorious electric burlesque act The Emma Dilemma Show has an all new line up, choreographed by Bulgefrock, and influenced by the Mighty Boosh and the Mods of the 1980’s. “Mascara density is directly proportional to emotional intelligence”, weeps McIntosh, the girl behind the glitter. Also featuring Tasmanian sideshow heroes Samora Squid (swordswallower, contortionist) and The Human Bridge (Glass eater, Glass Walker). Also starring on the music front is Mayfield, the wunderkind of local rock heroes Carl Fidler and Glenn Moorehouse. A special guest appearance by underground heroes Hedwig and the Angry Inch will please the doyennes of local cult theatre. The Tasmanian Variety Freak Show promises a night of magical shenanigans and hilarious mayhem, featuring sword swallowing, glass walking, live piercing, dancing girls, jelly wrestling, contortionists, knife throwing, burlesque, comedy, bands, film, theatre and DJs.________________________________________________________ _____________________ ____________________________________________________________ _________________ABOVE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: SAMORA SQUID (SWORD SWALLOWER), EMMA DILEMMA, REBEKAH DEANE, JESSICA SAWYER, ERIN LERHART, TRISTAN FRASER, GULLIVER MCINTOSH AND MADELEINE ROSE LAUNCH THE TASMANIAN VARIETY FREAK SHOW IN LAUNCESTON – Published in The Examiner, 8 February 2007, Photo by Ben Voss. ____________________________________________________________ _________________"The Tasmanian Variety Freak Show has burst from the underground arts scene and established itself in the niche of the mainstream psyche that's been home to burlesque dancers and sword-swallowers since the 19th century" - The Mercury, Tasmania. ____________________________________________________________ _________________"Circus, danger, theatre and sexiness in Launceston.
