Charles Du Cane

About Me

"His beat-heavy pop is reminiscent of turntable boff Kid Koala, if only for its sense of mischief, sense of space and immaculate timing... Someone, somewhere, is going to be making a bunch of money from this music." - Everett True, NME
Charles Du Cane is an electronic songwriter/producer from Tasmania, Australia. His songs borrow heavily from long-forgotten vignettes that litter Australia's history, rural blues from the Deep South and the spoken ramblings of Bukowski or Kerouac. Sometimes he lapses into a scrawny Presleyan growl, at times a husky bark reminiscent of Joy Division, and sometimes his voice simply sinks into silence beneath the pile-drive synth lines that surround it. Wrap it all up in his distinctively tightly chunky, sample-based production and the result is one hell of a record.
His second full-length album, Poets, is released in July 2009. The album, written in India throughout 2008, is full of electro-pop parlour hits in the Tasmanian fashion, and was largely self-produced in his home studio. Featuring guest performances from members of Hobart luminaries Viva Computer, The Que and Moe Grizzly, Poets was largely recorded at Du Cane's home studio, with overdubs and mixing completed by Anthony Rochester at his Winter Palace studios.
