We are also getting some nice comments on the album from the industry!
"... an absolutely dream-inducing brainwave from noted U.K. musicians Garry Hughes and Andrew T. Mackay." -
Billboard
"....After a sixty minute soaking of majestic Eastern tinged strings bathed in rich, aromatic orchestral soundscapes, I was already convinced that I was listening to the album of the year." www.global-trance.co.uk
"... electronic exotica featuring this overwhelmingly beautiful string group who know how to improvise on a melody and session players who can site read and improvise... the cross cultural pollination happening on this set's 12 cuts works like mad... It's for adults listening at home or in small gatherings with the word "listening" being the primary word in the sentence...The sense of adventure on this project comes to listeners in terms of its sophistication in composition, arrangement, melody, harmonic invention, while being completely accessible to a wide range of musical palettes." - All Music Guide
"Bombay Dub Orchestra is a blissed out blend of sweeping Ravi Shankar like strings, sitars, and tabla, subtle electronica and the occasional triply big beat...first you chill, then you thrill." - www.americanwired.com
"[Bombay Dub Orchestra] has produced a recording of lush, sensual Indian "down tempo" that will stroke the senses and enamor the soul... Hughes and Mackay have traveled far and long to release Bombay Dub Orchestra and the results are beyond sublime. With its variety of textures, arrangements and moods, this double CD is an intoxicating and seductive tapestry of memorable themes, richly-mined electronics, orchestral arrangements, and the deep pulse of space." - Mundovibes
"...the duo's skillful integration of these seemingly divergent sources is seamless. A full orchestra, live soloist, and a rich production aesthetic are tastefully complemented by sexy trip-hop programming that recalls Zero 7 and other top-flight groups." - Amazon.com
"...This project could have pulled off a name like Bombay Ambient Dub Orchestra. There is no question that anyone into strongly Indian styled, yet undoubtedly Western influenced music with a romantic, classical slant should fall completely in love with this album. Beautifully lush" www.properlychilled.com
"..Bombay Dub Orchestra is the orchestra chill-out record ........ It honors the essential contemplative nature of its source material - Indian classical music - and sparkles with unusual and exquisite beauty. The subtle electronics, pulses and beats, underneath such tunes as Compassion complement its Indian components, not overpower them.
....Solitary violin steps out of the mist overlying Rare Earth like a solitary eagles majestic, solitary flight; the soaring North African vocals from Khalid Kharchaf featured in The Berber of Seville conjures the same mythical, mystical imagery. To the Shore traverses a melody that is simply, sadly, ethereally beautiful. Though the spotlight mainly (and properly) shines on the Indian instrumentalists, Mackay merits mention as a Harold Budd-like impressionistic pianist on Sonata and Remembrance, a two-minute instrumental prayer pregnant with the beauty of becoming that closes the CD."
