About Me

Andrew T. Mackay is a London based composer, pianist, arranger, trout tickler and ferret fancier.
Some of that’s true! My main thing at the moment is the Bombay Dub Orchestra , which is myself, and a great and truly wonderful guy and musician Garry Hughes . Our debut album came out late Feb 2006 in the US and on 31st July in the UK. Do check out our music on our My Space pages. (see the link in my friends below)
I studied piano, clarinet and composition at the London College of Music under Dr Lloyd-Webber , the eminent composer and father of Julian and Andrew. Most of my musical life I have had a deep interest in music from around the world and over the last decade or so have stopped off in India. Last year I completed the music to the wonderful feature film ‘Little Box Of Sweets’ . The film is due for release later this year. It is shot entirely in India and features a western orchestra with some wonderful Indian soloists and string players.www.littleboxofsweets.com
I record regularly in India and have built up a great working relationship and friendship with many of the country’s finest players.
Over the years I have composed music for a variety of genres from gospel, Jazz and blues through to hip-hop, drum n bass and large scale orchestral classical... And for the theatre, TV and film as well as arranging strings for artists such as VAST and ABC.
I have also composed music for art installations, audio visuals events and photographic exhibitions. Two of my favourite works were for the legendary photographers Annie Leibovitz and the late Herb Ritts!
At some point I plan to release a solo piano works – This will feature pieces that I have written since early college times up to a few years ago.
I'll also try and get some new tracks up here soon as some of these ones have been up here for what seems an age. But for now here’s a bit of info on the few tracks.
The piece called Joan's Theme was written for the funeral of my dear aunt Joan a few years back. Lovely lady and a suitable piece for her memory. The other track was recorded with the soprano Izzy. Psalm 57 was included on her debut album Libera Me with three other tracks of mine. The album hit the Number 1 spot on the UK classical Album charts. Which was nice. You can find out more about Izzy at www.izzysings.info
The first piece is one of the 9 pieces composed for Alex Rowbotham's unique festival in Italy- Painting With Light Projections Festival . This took place last summer ( Aug 2006) Check out www.multivisione.com. At the festival wonderful images were projected onto the side of a castle along with my music.
I have also added an excerpt from Sea Symphony - This was written way back in 1992 for Expo 92 in Seville. Full orchestra, choir and soloists. What joy to work with such great musicians! Imagine being on one of the first ships heading across the Atlantic!
