Band Members: Punxie and The Poison Pens are Punxie (vocals, being incredibly incredibly good-looking),
Matt Poison (musical genius, guitars, bourbon and coke),
Brad Cox (drums/ultra-musician/telling Punxie to move more),
and Budge (Gary Page) (bass guitar/long walks at sunset).
Matt, Brad and Budge hail from popular underground Brisbane bands of the Bjelke-Peterson era including Scruff the Cat, The Bystanders, La Fetts, The Dumbshow and The Skeletones to name just a few.
Punxie and The Poison Pens bring punk back to its roots with authentic guitar driven power-rock and lyrics that have been described as “powerful, deceptively simpleâ€, “catchy, entertaining and socially relevant in the true punk traditionâ€, and “hilariously offensiveâ€.
Punxie began as an amateur stand-up on Brisbane’s open-mic comedy circuit in 2004-5 and quickly made a name for herself as "that girl that does all the arse-fucking jokes".
In late 2006 Punxie, and super-guitarist Matt Poison combined their talents and released her first single You're My MySpace Friend... on MySpace! Their effort met with an admiring internet audience, shooting Punxie into the Top 10 Comedians on Australian MySpace. Together, the beguiling if quirky plant lady with a green thumb for lyrics, and the has-been 80's rock sensation discover that if you want to write the perfect love song, it helps to fall in love... hang on, sorry, no, that was Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore in that movie that really sucked. Punxie and Matt are nothin' like those douchbags.
Anyway, as an aspiring comedian, Punxie’s brand of happy go lucky, in your face comedy soon had her labeled as a ‘socially retarded troublemaker’. “The transition to leading a punk rock band just seemed clear from there on in,†she explains.
More songs were quickly released within a few months via MySpace to enthusiastic fans worldwide.
Together with Matt Poison (the musical genius behind their amazing guitar-driven rock), Brad Cox on drums and later Budge on bass, Punxie’s band The Poison Pens was formed, and yet more excellent punk rock songs emerged. Check our gig listings for details on where we're playing next!

Punxie's favourite joke:
This musician dies and goes to heaven. He knows he's in heaven because as soon as he gets there, Saint Peter gives him a VIP pass to a rock concert and he is escorted to a limousine that drives him right to the door.
He gets a great seat right at the front just in time for the lights to dim, then the drummer starts up. It is Keith Moon. Another spotlight illuminates the keyboard as it starts, and the musician is shocked to recognise Mozart. The guitars start and there is Jimmy Hendrix and Kurt Cobain, and John Entwhistle on bass... every time another instrument started, he recognised another famous musician.
Finally, a woman approaches the microphone and everyone gasps at how beautiful she is. She picks up the microphone and starts to sing... and, it's awful. Terrible. The worst singing he has ever heard.
But the music being so incredibly great, nobody minds, the concert goes on through the night and everyone enjoys themselves.
Afterwards, when he is transported backstage (it's heaven), he goes up to Jimmy Hendrix.
"That totally rocked, man!" says the musician, "It was the most amazing thing I ever heard.. Except for one thing... what's with the girl?"
Jimmy replies:
"Yeah, I know, but what can you do? She's God's girlfriend."
Sounds Like: REVIEWERS SAY:
"PunXie and the Poison Pens executed the perfect portrayal of punk with the ultimate chick lead vocalist, a combination of Blondie and Transvision Vamp but with a meatier sound. My Pussy is the Bomb and Just Too Jerry Springer was humorous punk-riddled hymns enjoyed by the minions. The prowess and fascinating appeal of this band left us wanting more."
