The Dirt Band

About Me

The Dirt Band have been around in one incarnation or another since 2002 and started off as just Chris, Ray and Cec. Pretty quickly we grabbed Grant to play Mandolin and not long after that we enlisted the rhythm section with Tom and Andy leading up the rear. We all live in the mountains in country Queensland (and it shows), done our time in the Aussie music scene and we're still playing that good ol rockin music. Chris used to be in a Sydney band, the Splatterheads: a glam thrash punk band, Andy has played in a million bands from Brisbane to Melbourne including Thanks for the Fish, Wish and Sun Orange to name a few, Ray has played in various ambient combo's since the 80's as well as Four Horse Town, Colour Jungle and the Great Curve, Tom's been playing Bass for years in various experimental/avantgarde(?) type combo's and by the way is a well established Artist (in drawing) in Australia, Grant learned Mandolin when he was a little tacker but gave it up for many years before taking it up again to play with Grandview and then with us and I (Ceccy) played with Four Horse Town and have been writing with Ray for years. We've released one CD so far, "Giv'em Enough Dirt" distributed through MGM in Oz and are unsigned. We've played at the Valley Fiesta, Rics, the Troubadour, the Stockwood Festival, the Lillypad at the Big Day Out, heaps of parties, Wineries, the Ballandean Tavern, Art Galleries, the Basement in Sydney and are getting ready to head off to Melbourne this year. We're recording more songs for another CD and are lucky enough to have pretty open access to a great studio where we live,(Andy,Ray and I are also in that business) that is situated in an old ice works building. Huge ceilings, massive room and great ambience. There's 3 different songwriting entities in the band and we all bring pretty different styles and influences to bear, the challenge for us is to try and meld all that into a sound that is uniquely Dirt Band. Grant loves his old raw blues and country, Chris brings a far bit of thrash and punk into the mix and Ray and I can't get away from our Pop and Country roots. Add into that a fair bit of noise at times and you'll get the general idea of what we sound like. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy our music. Here's our video for "Chances" MyGen Profile Generator
