About Me

Andra grew up studying the viola and teaching herself punk songs on guitar. After graduating with a music degree from Lawrence University, she moved to Chicago and found a job selling guitars at Gand Music to pay the rent.Obsessed with the idea of playing the viola in any context BUT classical, she began the avant garde improvising trio known as Misguided Guest . Meanwhile, after work everyday she would stay up till 2am in her bedroom quietly writing songs about life in the city as a young, urban single person. The bulk of her rock songs come out of this period of time.In early 2006, Misguided Guest fell apart after a little over a year. Word got out that the rock n roll violist was on the loose and Andra began playing viola with local composer Mike Przygoda in his rock band, the Cynics, and other projects such as the Diminisher , and Cameron McGill and the Quartet Offensive . Some of her other collaborations include a guest appearance on Scale Model ’s upcoming album, where she wrote and recorded the string parts.Andra continues to write songs and performs under the name, “The Andra Show.” Regulars in her band include Ali Nagib, Sam Scranton of Volcano! , and “Other Andra” Kulans of the 1900s.
