I am a guitarist born and raised in the House Mecca of the world, Chicago! Give me my House, Latin Freestyle, D&B, Techno, Acid Jazz, Progressive Dance….Anything with a groove I can feel! But my first love wasn’t Dance Music. Oddly enough it was Rock. I got totally wrapped up in the 80’s shred and metal scene, until the hammer fell, and Grunge, and Alternative rock, took over. Pause and puke. I have always dug Dance Music, but my drug of choice was M E T A L. After Shred’s demise, I got more into the Dance genre. Latin Freestyle was definitely kicking, and the song “ James Brown is Dead†just opened the dance flood gates for me. Hell, old school Hip Hop was right on track till all this gangsta crap came into it. In the 90’s, I started to look back into Rock, mainly Progressive, after discovering Tony MacAlpine, Satch, Vai, Scofield, Di Meola, and a slew of other virtuoso guitarists that kept the flame alive. Got really into Deep House after listening to a smooth jazz station and heard a song that definitely had a House back beat and someone playing a guitar solo over it. Discovering a four disk CD compilation which displayed House as more musical, jazzier like, have me practicing Jazz now. I’m glad the genre has made the transition, at least the Deep part, and artist like Peven, Mr. ALI, and Tortured Soul is keeping it alive. I want to try and put a Fusion twist into it like Al Di Meola and Scofield. and maybe some craziness like Buckethead and Vai. Rock and Electronica can live together, just look at Trance and Industrial.
