Born March 1986 Derek "Shadow Soulja" Kenmuir was raised around all various types of music, raised by a single mother with hardly no father figure in his life besides his uncle coming in and out of his life well he was little. He was raised along side his 3 sisters, hence the various music he grew up around, from R&B to Pop, Hip Hop, Rap, Classical, Rock Etc. He grew up raising him self, teaching him self how to become a man through out his life due to the lack of a father figure, the positive side of being raised by a woman is he learned how to respect them more. While growing up in Vancouver East-Side he's seen friends come and go, some lost in the streets, some Restin In Peace, some locked up, some fucked up turned murderers. He seen and been involved in his share of fights one almost costing his life back in July of 2006 and leaving him with a scar right next to his right eye and one right above it. He's seen what drugs done to his closes friends and steered clear from them all his life, some call him crazy others call him inspirational, others are clearly judgmental.
At a young age he fell in-love with Hip Hop music, the instant he laid his eyes on the music video to "California Love" ft 2pac & Dr Dre, Roger Troutman. Shadow Soulja kept looking and digging for more and more Hip Hop music by these artist trying to find the strong voice he heard in this song on others, gave up until he reached the 8th grade in 2000 where one of his classmates had the official copy of 2pac's Greatest Hits which his classmate sold to him for $5.00. Right away he fell back in-love with Hip Hop music, realizing the radio wasn't playing nothing close to what was on the cd, he went back to the same classmate and picked up Still I Rise for another $5.00.
After about 6 months of enjoying both classic albums he decided to write his first rhyme called "Look Out B.C." basically the track was about politics that corrupt British Columbia (Canada) never recorded it just wrote it for a school project. After that he recorded here and there and made his first underground mix-tape only 7 copys of this mix-tape were ever made and were handed out to his closes friends at the time signed with his very first recordings. That mix-tape got him noticed by another fellow emcee in the same grade at age 16 they hooked up and formed a group now no longer established WCP (West Coast Playaz) consisting of 4 members one including him self and 3 others. In total they recorded 4 tracks never to be released except for one being performed at there grade 12 high school talent show "Apocalypses Rising". Age 17 Shadow Soulja and 3 other artist from the UK form a online group Q2R (Quick 2 React) and recorded a few tracks together but really never really completed a album or a mix-tape together, the 3 artist include "Midgetman, Winky aka Emocean, and Lady Mix Up". Emocean & Shadow Soulja still record music together to this day.
2 years go by 2006 rolls up in Feb 2006, Shadow Soulja releases the mix-tape consisting of 7 tracks "The Beginning" sold out of print within the first couple months of release. SILENCE for the next couple years, dropping solo tracks all over the net but no mix-tape no album in sight, no mention of one dropping, He drops a personal album in Nov 2007 for his Fiance "Nothin But Love" consisting of 10 tracks, with one on here "Baby, Baby". Apparently appeared on Da Ghost's up comin mix-tape The Death Sentence featured on the track "Soulja'z Fall".
