About Me

Olivier Poumay starts music with diatonic harmonica at the age of 6. On the occasion of a workshop in 1988, he discovers the chromatic harmonica , a richer one considering the harmonic possibilities.
Olivier also becomes initiated into saxophone and piano. He improves his knowledges in harmonica on the occasion of workshops, private lessons, and music academy where he gets his degree in 1993. His teachers were Jacques Pelzer, Jean-Pierre Catoul, Pirly Zurstrassen, Fabien Degryse, Erwin Vann, Pierre Vaiana, Steve Houben, Richard Rousselet, Guy Cabay, Arnould Massart, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Michel Hatzi .

He records an album "It's boogie time" in 2000 with The Boogie Workers.
Olivier devotes to composition in order to offer a new music inspired by the ECM mood, traditional, folk, jazz and classical music.
Upanishads born with Philippe Libois (P), Juan Campos (Dm), Eric Fusillier (Bs) and Marc Frankinet (Tp). In July 2004 they played in the Montreux Jazz Festival .
Based in Brussels since December 2001, Olivier leads an acoustic trio "Sheng" with Philippe Malfeyt (lute & theorbo) and Johan De Baedts (perc) to play an intimist music.

Since 2002, he's also a member of the blues-rock group " Burning Plague III ".

Olivier introduce his harmonica in the meeting's music in a duo with Abid El Bahri (Ud and Sentir), O'Kad (mixed of Gnawa and occidental music) and with " Afromandinka ".

In 2004, he's guest in the second album of " Luthomania " with Sigrid Vandenbogaerde, Steve Houben and Gwenaël Micault .

In October 2003-2004, he makes a tour in Belgium with the French group " Mes souliers sont rouges ".

His meeting with Denys Lefrançois started a duo of French songs.
