Jeanette Lindström

..."is the jazz singer that prompted legendary producer Quincy Jones to voice the portentous words: "An old soul in a young singer". And also: "She really understands what jazz is all about!" The year was 1995 and Jeanette Lindström made her major breakthrough – on a broad front. She is first and foremost a jazz singer, but at the same time has never been opposed to stepping outside of the borders of jazz. The calendar tells us it’s now a different year, and today Jeanette Lindström is one of Sweden's most prized jazz singers.

The priority is her own band, the same band as can be found on her album, "In The Middle Of This Riddle" (released on Amigo Musik/Bonnier Amigo Music Group in 2005), and her own compositions. Composing and performing her own material, both music and lyrics, has always played a central role in Jeanette's musicianship. Throughout the years Jeanette has also worked in other bands and projects and appeared on several occasions as a featured vocalist with renowned jazz groups, big bands, chamber orchestras and symphonic orchestras. Jeanette Lindström has given concerts and toured extensively throughout the Nordic countries as well as France, Belgium, UK, Japan, Canada..."

Influences:
"We question all our beliefs, except for the ones that we really believe, and those we never think to question."

- Orson Scott Card ("Speaker For the Dead")

Sounds Like: "Lindstrom sings in such a way as to invite the listener into her own world. Like waking up on a warm summer day, welcomed by birds singing. It's a world full of depth, dimension and beauty. Production and sound are first rate. A refreshing work of art, listening to Walk not only invites repeated listening but may well become a classic for years to come."

- Jazzman (France)

Dusty Groove about "In The Middle Of This Riddle"...
"The boldest set to date from Swedish singer Jeanette Lindstrom -- a record that soars along warmly jazzy inflections, but still retains some of the airier touches of her earlier work! Jeanette's got a style here that's really unique -- jazz vocals, but without many obvious links to other eras of the genre -- sung sometimes in a mode that's more personal and singer/songwriter oriented, but without any of the indulgences of that side of the spectrum as well. Instrumentation is sometimes spare, but perfectly placed."

...about "Walk"
"One of the most compelling vocalists to come out of the recent Scandinavian scene -- a singer whose tones and inflections remind us strongly of vocal jazz experimentalists of the 70s European years -- but one who also steps out here with a style that's often more modern and contemporary! There's an airy feel to Jeanette's tunes that's carried off nicely by small combo instrumentation on piano, guitar, vibes, trumpet, and bass -- sometimes used in ethereal ECM-ish ways, but balanced with a warmer sound from Lindstrom's vocals that avoids any of the cliches of that sort of style."
