About Me

Hi, my name is Kerry and I am of Cherokee and Irish/German descent. I created this page in hopes of building a network of people who share my belief that American Indians deserve better housing than many of them have now.I am working to create a Not-for-Profit program designed to improve the sub-standard housing conditions many of our people are forced to live in every day. Our country is full of wonderful people who are making positive changes every day, however, it’s always troubled me that the poorest of the poor in this country are America's First People - if poverty is ranked on a ladder, they are holding it up.So, here’s the idea behind this page. I envision an organization that operates in much the same way as Habitat for Humanity, but with a twist. The type of homes I’d like to see built are what is commonly called an “Earth Homes” or “Earthships”. Earthships are constructed in different ways depending on the climate and terrain. Because they operate on Nature’s power, whether it's wind, sun, water, or a combination, they are self-sustaining and usually result in little or NO utility bills. No more water, gas or electric bills - no more dependency on utility companies, or the risk of having heat or water shut off!.An added benefit to building Earth Homes is they creates less of a hardship on our planet’s resources – and by tradition, the First Americans were not a wasteful people and did not strip the land for personal gain. What a wonderful way to teach the children of tomorrow how to treasure what we have today…AND provide housing to those who desperately need it!Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you on my Friends page :o)

I'd like to meet:

"The more I learn the more I realize the less I know."I would like to learn from the people who are on my Friends page how to best make this idea work. I know what I'd like to see accomplished, but it's the people I meet here who can help me understand what will work best for different tribal, geographical and family situations. I'm hoping to also learn about organizations in your neighborhoods that can become part of the network. I’m always open to your thoughts, feedback, suggestions and constructive criticism. All the best and thanks for reading. The slide show below is an example of one type of earth home that was built at Pine Ridge. Because 90% of the home is below ground, any heating and cooling needed can be provide by solar or wind power...which means little or NO UTILITY BILLS!If you would like to read more on Earth Homes and learn how the operate, here’s the website for the organization that built the earthship below: www.earthship.org..TR
Earthship home in Pine Ridge. Because 90% of the home is underground, which is a constant temperature year round, there is little need for heating and cooling systems, but they can be provided by wind or solar power. For more information, visit www.earthship.org
Henry and other workers building an earthship home in Pine Ridge. Note the earth packed tires, which are fire proof and provide good, natural insulation for the walls.
Hemp is used as an insulation for the roof. No toxic or hazardous materials are used in the construction of earth homes. Make a SlideShow at MyWackoSpace.com

I asked the Creator to make my handicapped child whole and the Creator said "No." He said her spirit is whole, her body is only temporary. I asked the Creator to grant me patience and the Creator said "No." He said patience is a by-product of tribulations. It is not granted, it is earned. I asked the Creator to give me happiness and the Creator said "No." He said he gives me blessings, happiness is up to me. I asked the Creator to spare me pain and the Creator said "No." He said suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to Me. I asked the Creator to make my spirit grow and the Creator said "No." He said I must grow on my own, but he would prune me to make me fruitful I asked the Creator for all things that I might enjoy life and the Creator said "No." He said I will give you life, that you may enjoy all things. I asked the Creator to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me and Creator said, "Ah, finally you have the idea my child".
