Miriam Blennerhassett Biography
A founder member of the highly successful group Anúna, the National Chamber Choir, and The Drawing Room Opera Company, Miriam Blennerhassett studied at the Dublin college of Music. She sang for Opera Ireland in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro and Puccini’s Madame Butterfly.
Other performances include Carmen with Bernadette Greevy at The National Concert Hall. She performed solo in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Ulster Orchestra at the Two Cathedrals Festival in Derry.
Miriam made her American debut in September 2002 with Jim Molloy's production of The Irish Ring at Carnegie Hall, New York, The State Theatre, New Jersey and The Lyric Opera House, Baltimore. Some of her engagements include sell out performances of The King and I at The National Concert hall, Dublin, where she played the role of Lady Thaing with Festival Productions. She also played the role of the Mother Abbess to sell out performances of the Sound of Music at the Cork Opera House.
In July of last year she was also privileged to play the role of Lady Stardust along side Gavin Friday in his production Tomorrow Belongs To Me at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin.
She also has numerous broadcasts and recordings to her credit.
Anúna
She has traveled extensively with Anúna and has toured North America, Sweden, England, Japan, to name a few, and was on a State Tour of South America with Irish President Mary McAleese and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
She has recently been appointed Chorus Mistress and in January of this year completed an 80 minute PBS Special recording with the group in Cleveland, Ohio, which is being aired on Public Television in America in the Autumn. They are also undertaking an extensive tour of America in the Autumn.
She is recently returned from a very successful visit to Newfoundland where she made many new friends at The Festival 500. In July and August she travelled throughout the United States with 6 other members of Anuna performing in Borders Bookstores to promote their new CD and DVD Celtic Origins. After a brief return home to do a few concerts and corporate gigs she returned to The United States for a 9 week tour with Anuna on a very exciting journey to bring "Celtic Origins" to life.Future tours include England, Holland and Lithuania. .
