Michael McGlynn

Irish Composer

About Me

Anuna director and composer Michael McGlynn is one of Ireland's best-known composers. Anuna have released nine albums since 1993 almost exclusively featuring Michael's arrangements and original works. His choral music is performed world-wide including his piece "Dulaman", which has been recorded many times. He has written instrumental and orchestral music, including "Visions" for saxophone and piano " Silver River" for orchestra and oboe and "Behind the Closed Eye", originally premiered and recorded by The Ulster Orchestra and Anuna.Michael's musical language is a blend of modal and classical, and his harmonic language, while accessible, is often unexpected. Although much of his music uses avant garde and contemporary compositional styles, he sits uncomfortably in any musical camp, veering from melodic and powerful rhythmic music to microtonal experimental pieces.
