Influences: Inspiration
Monesque has always been keen to create her own original sound/style. She’s been inspired by songs that really work regardless of style – you can’t beat a great melody, beat and riff. She’s inspired by such artists as The Velvet Underground, Elvis Costello, The Go-Betweens, The Saints – Ed Keupper and Chris Bailey, The Doors, The Triffods, The Stranglers, The Beat, Blondie, Ella Fitzgerald Phil Spector's ‘wall of sound’, Brian Wilson, Elvis, The Church, Japan, Nina Simone, Neil Diamond, Glen Campbell to name a few.Coming from an alternative musical background, Monique is also inspired by diverse musical styles such as “world music African, Middle Eastern, Indian, Asian, South American/Latin and native American Indian music); alternative guitar bands, soul, R& B, 50’s rock’n’roll, early 60’s ‘mod’ music, late 60’s psychedelia and acid rock, 70’s disco, funk, punk and junk, ambient, techno, electronica, rockabilly, psychobilly, indie, new wave, house, hardcore, folk, industrial, thrash, swamp, experiemental, blues, jazz, brit pop, hiphop, lounge, grunge, reggae, ska, classical and baroqueâ€. Instead of copying, she decided from the start to create her own sound and find out what music she had inside. This process, once started, has never stopped.
Sounds Like: No one else really but welcoming to comparisons if you can think of any.
