ABOUT SHELWOY
A little bit of hell, armagedon, experimentation, psychedelic, melancholy and landscape... there is some prediction in it that Slovakia hides in its own bowels a seed of real personality which has a lot to say, but yet does not know how it will happen. ...a voice which sounds already groovy enough, illustrates icy meanness and cynism, but also dear professions of love, tenderness and prostration. Eduard Svitivy, Uni 1993
Shellwoy accentuates melodious, powerful songs with many turns and also logic openings. The band likes a lively tempo so it does not end up being sleazy or dumpish. Guitars and synthesizers are balanced reasonably. Brazenly sensitive voice commemorates vocals of Suede or A-ha. Work with melody is prudent. The songs are not similar and each one of them performs as very mature. It is the kind of music that is necesary to play loud at the end because there are still to be found some new and interesting ideas going on. Daniel Balaz, SME 23.11.2002
You can find many Slovak groups inspired by British guitar music lately, but none of them managed to put such a strong imprint on their music to the extent that Shellwoy shows in their debut. Although the band has been around for almost ten years, which is usually a breaking-up point for a band lacking media support not yet having realeased an album, Shellwoy is alive and that is only good for our music stage. The singer, Tibor Rostas, sings exclusively in English and his English belongs to the better part of our scene. Peter Cagan, Music.sk, 2003
Listening to the debut of Shellwoy released after ten years of the band's existence, may remind you the eighties. Powerful melodies with occasional melacholic endearment. Milan Slezak, MusiQ 2003
While some regard Karol Miklos to be the Slovakian Morrisey, you may as well say that there are equal further relations between Shellwoy and Suede at their beginning before Bernard Butler left the band. The guys made a great video of the first single " Today Is Life " and they are nominated for the prestigeons IFPI Aurel Award in the category of Breakthrough Of The Year . Rado Ondrejicek, Inzine 2003
