About Me

The 2007 Kopkind/CID filmmakers camp was a FANTASTIC time for all! Our theme this year was creativity...heres a few pictures from our week at camp!

Documentaries have a unique power to inform, empower, enlighten. Since 1981 the Center for Independent Documentary has been exclusively dedicated to the creation of these films through collaborations with independent producers.Independents have a unique vision, and have the creative passion and courage to achieve that vision, often against all odds. They take on unpopular and eccentric subjects, offer views that are often underrepresented, and usually have to struggle to raise funds. Our mission at CID is to make their job easier- to help bring these films to fruition and to an audience. While we are neither a production house nor a distributor, we work with producers at all phases of the project- we can act as fiscal sponsor, manage project funds, offer creative and technical support, fundraising advice, and even an experienced hand to hold. Our over 200 films have been seen on HBO, PBS, and at the Sundance Festival, and have earned numerous awards from Emmy's to Peabody's.Our collaborations are open to all US filmmakers, regardless of experience.Keep your eyes open- you will be seeing us. Center for Independent DocumentaryFILMMAKERS WORKSHOP is a program of the Center for Independent Documentary in collaboration with the Alliance for Independent Motion Media that offers Boston area independent media artists a non-competitive, supportive community to strengthen their work. The screenings and workshops (held on the third Wednesday of each month in Boston) enhance the quality of projects produced from the pitch to the completed work by offering filmmakers informal professional development opportunities, constructive feedback, and a chance to network with their peers. Television:

Here is some information on a unique film and an opportunity to help that will really make a difference: Its a story of deception, art and war that has been a secret for almost 50 years. You can help make sure that it now gets told--before its too late. This is the story of "the Ghost Army" a top-secret unit composed of artists whose mission it was to create a "traveling road show" to deceive the Germans about the location and strength of American troops on battlefields across Europe- and it is one of the last great untold stories of World War II. Filmmaker Rick Beyer has been working as quickly as possible to capture the stories of the surviving veterans of the 23rd headquarters Special Troops. Though they are now in their 80s & 90's, they've given Rick their vivid recollections of their extraordinary unit. You can read more about the film, the unit and about Rick on the film website at : http://www.ghostarmy.org. We're in a race against time to earn a matching funds grant for The Ghost Army film. And we could sure use your help.Kevin Bacon’s “Six Degrees” charitable organization Six Degrees is offering a $10,000 matching grant to the six non-profits that get the most donations between now and September 16 through a charity badge. What's a charity badge? Ours right below. It can be replicated and embedded in websites, blogs, My Space pages, etc. It also keeps the world updated on how many people have donated how much. There’s two ways you can help:1. MAKE A SMALL DONATIONIt doesn't take much, just a $10 donation will help. If you donate today, it will help keep us in the top 10, and keep our badge in the spotlight. Click “Donate” on the badge and it will take you to a page where you can donate via credit card or Paypal. ***Important: On the “Designation” line please type in THE GHOST ARMY.2. SPREAD THE WORDWe are trying to engage the largest number of donors as possible. Please consider sending an email to friends and colleagues, trying to enlist their support. Every little bit helps. Thanks!!
