DOCFILM is currently working on an unconventional documentary, called BPOTM (Being Part Of The Machine). Our aim is to show the often ineffective mechanisms in which people are living their lives. We will not use a classic narrative technique (with standard interviews accompanied by clear-cut illustrative shots). In stead we will try to make a kind of poetic as well as an outspoken film, that will confront people with (and hopefully enlighten them about) what we are doing to ourselves and to the world and to what kind of devastation this all can lead.
BPOTM is about learning to live with less, about trying to be less occupied with material things and more with people, about having to do mind-numbing jobs to pay for our superfluous consumption, about how societal stress affects the quality of our lives.
We will try to illustrate how economical structures disturb people’s lives and how nature suffers from our interventions. We will show beautiful, silent landscapes, that will be followed by images of the (strangely beautiful) ugliness of waste disposal plants, (loud) industrial environments, oil pumps, etc... We will show the general beauty of nature together with huge traffic jams, air and water pollution, people in frustrating jobs... We will try to highlight the undermining effects of living in an industrialized world that is almost solely focused on economic benefit.
Are you someone who has a strong opinion about (one of) the above subjects, then we want to hear from you. In particular we are looking for English speaking people (to be precise; people who can speak English) living in Belgium.
You won’t get paid and you (probably) won’t get famous, but your involvement could raise awareness about the state our society is in, helping people to realize that we can try to find another, more fulfilled lifestyle.
Please reply to take part or for more information. You can also forward this email to other people who might be interested.
Thank you!
