About Me

Zoe Cassavetes grew up in Los Angeles and worked on many productions as a director, writer, producer and actress. In 1993, Zoe co-created and co-hosted a experimental digital video television show called High Octane for cable tv..s Comedy Central with friend and conspirator Sofia Coppola. The show was based on lifestyle culture mixed with humorous skits and talented guests like Martin Scorsese, The Beastie Boys, and Keanu Reeves as well as more experimental artists such as the painter Robert Williams and stunt driver Buddy Joe Hooker. The show only lasted one season, but it was one of the first shows to use digital video and unconventional editing. When High Octane was finished, Zoe tried stints as a host on MTV..s House of Style as well as assistant directing on independent films Mascara and Sofia Coppola..s Lick the Star. In 1997, Zoe moved from Los Angeles to New York City where she was inspired to make her short film Men Make Women Crazy Theory, which was selected at the Sundance Film Festival (2000). Zoe..s co-producer on the film Jean Touitou, who is the owner/designer for APC decided to distribute the film on DVD (with an additional soundtrack) through his store and website. The short was critically acclaimed in the US and France, and through the DVD, became a ..cult classic... The movie was also shown on the Sundance Channel. While working on her script for her first feature ..Broken English.., she got into the world of directing commercials and music videos as a way to experiment different artistic routes and learn more about film stock, cameras and editing technique. She has done multiple commercials for Chase Manhattan Bank, the designer Anna Sui, and French handbag designer Lamarthe. She has also done music videos for such artists as Duncan Sheik and Nancy Boy, and Chromeo. Zoe..s first feature film ..Broken English.. premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007 and has since been shown at the San Francisco Film International Film Festival, the Sarasota Film Festival, Philadelphia Film Festival (Best First Film Award) as well as many others. The movie is slated to open in June of 2007 nationwide.
