" - Rae deLisle, senior lecturer at Auckland School of Music.------------------------------------------------------ -------------Andrea completed her Bachelor of Music performance degree with James Tennant at the University of Auckland in 2004, where she received an Arts and Cultural Blues award for excellence in music performance both in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, she furthered her studies with James Tennant at University of Waikato completing her honours degree.Andrea has participated in orchestral playing since the age of eight. She was the principal cellist in the NZSSSO in 1997. She was a member of the Auckland Symphony Youth Orchestra from 1997 till 2002, where she became principal cellist in 2001 and 2002. She was a member of the NZSO National Youth Orchestra from 1999 – 2003 and has enjoyed playing with the Opus Chamber Orchestra and Bach Musica in the last three years.In December 2005, she featured as soloist with the Waikato Symphony Orchestra performing the Haydn cello concerto in C major.Andrea has gained much success and enjoys playing chamber music. She was a finalist in the University of Auckland chamber music competition in 2003 and 2006. In 2005, she was a finalist in the University of Waikato chamber music competition and also a finalist in the concerto competition.In 2007, she spent the year working with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. This year she has returned back to the University of Auckland to complete a Masters degree. In September 2008, she will continue her study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK.She owns and plays a copy of the Montagnana 1739 “Sleeping Beauty” cello made by Noel Sweetman.In her spare time, Andrea loves to spend time outdoors, at the beach, tramping, kayaking, skiing, walking and playing soccor. She also likes to paint and design.Andrea plays occasionally in gigs with singer/songwriter Andrew Keoghan. Keep checking up this space for upcoming gigs!
