"piano-playing of great subtlety"-Musical Pointers

About Me

"A RARELY UNIQUE PIANO RECORDING...PIANO-PLAYING OF GREAT SUBTLETY", writes Peter Grahame Woolf about Haydn Dickenson’s new album EAST, in the online journal MUSICAL POINTERS. Haydn Dickenson was born in in 1961 in Hertfordshire, UK. He currently lives in Hertfordshire and the Languedoc, France. Haydn studied extensively during the 1990’s with the great pianist, pedagogue and composer PETER FEUCHTWANGER , who became his principal influence and mentor. Acclaimed across Europe for his searching performances of an eclectic repertoire embracing Baroque through to contemporary works, Haydn has performed in Germany, Switzerland, France, Denmark and the Slovak Republic, as well as across the UK. His work has also been featured on French, German, Slovak and UK radio networks. Haydn has enjoyed a close collaboration with the major German composer Hans G Leonhardt, who has dedicated several new works to him, all of which have been given their World Premieres by Haydn. He has also recently performed UK Premieres of music by the Danish composer CLAUS GAHRN , and the New York City composer Eric Schwartz. Haydn Dickenson’s recent CD release EAST, featuring the mesmeric solo piano compositions of Peter Feuchtwanger is available now on the MUSIC CHAMBER label. For further information, and to order or download the CD, please visit www.Music-Chamber.com, www.cdbaby.com or www.Amazon.co.uk"Haydn Dickenson’s recital at Leighton House...was memorable for several reasons...such commitment and sense of style...his distinctive approach...a CD, EAST, the first release from the new Music Chamber label, entirely of Peter Feuchtwanger’s solo piano music played by Haydn Dickenson, is thoroughly recommended and is available on www.Music-Chamber.com" (Robert Matthew-Walker in MUSICAL OPINION)"The launch of EAST...was marked with a recital given by Haydn Dickenson given before a capacity crowd in the suitably exotic ambience of London’s Leighton House...Dickenson proved an ideal interpreter (of Feuchtwanger’s music)...The CD, in which Dickenson performs the works with aplomb...its release is an event to be celebrated." (Malcolm Miller in MUSIC AND VISION - www.mvdaily.com). Influences: Haydn Dickenson is influenced in his piano sound by the beauty and naturalness of the human voice, and by the playing of the great Masters of the Golden Age of Piano Playing. Since his childhood he has absorbed the refined, passionate and spontaneous ideals of the pianism of such giants as Hofmann, Lhevinne, Rachmaninoff, Haskil, Friedman, Cziffra and others. His interest in Eastern Philosophy and music is reflected in his recent CD release, EAST, in which the Eastern-inspired piano music of Peter Feuchtwanger is collected for the first time in its near-entirety.
Sounds Like: Innovative use of piano sonority and intricate pedal effects suggest the sound of eastern instruments and modes.
