About Me

Laura Piras began playing the flute at the age of eight. She graduated with honours from the University of East Anglia with an undergraduate degree in 2003 and a masters in 2004, during which time she was awarded a major performance scholarship for each year of study, which enabled her to receive tuition from William Sleath and Paul Edmund-Davies. Laura was also awarded an exclusive solo concert opportunity for most promising music graduate of 2004.During her career so far, Laura has been fortunate to perform in many solo and orchestral concerts in the U.K. and Europe, including as concerto soloist for Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto RV.443 and Khachaturian’s Flute Concerto. Laura also performs on a baroque flute, a replica model of a Palanca from the year 1770. Her modern flute is a Miyazawa.Currently based in Norwich, U.K., Laura performs a varied repertoire and also is involved in a number of composition projects, where her influences are from Eastern European folk music and Ancient Greek and Egyptian sources which give clues to how their music would have sounded.Laura teaches adults and children whose ability ranges from absolute beginners to those studying for music degrees. Please feel free to make enquiries about flute lessons, session work or composition commissions.Music will follow shortly!
