About Me

I've been playing drums since I was 13 but didn't start LEARNING how to play until I was about 20 - took lots of lessons and even though I have a thorough grasp of music theory I still suck as a player! Oh well, one of these days I'll get it!...................I'm currently playing with a great band called Points North . We play guitar oriented instrumental rock music and we are playing shows around the SF Bay Area. You can check out a pre-release version of 'Jubilee' from our upcoming EP to the left. Also be sure to check out our Myspace page for more music, video and upcoming shows below as well as herePoints North ...............................I've had many drumming influences over the years but it probably started with the Dave Clark Five followed closely by Doug Clifford and Creedence Clearwater Revival. But the first time I heard Aynsley Dunbar play on the first Journey record I was totally changed. He is still one of my main influences and I still keep his picture in my stick bag along with several others - Rod Morgenstein, Steve Smith, Simon Phillips, Neil Peart, and the one and only Jeff Porcaro. I would say my style is a mix between Rod Morgenstein and Aynsley. Of course once you reach a certain point many players will influence you in one way or another but those are the main guys.......................................................F or those of you who are interested in such things I play a Spaun Drums 6pc custom maple kit (since 2002); Sabian cymbals; Gibralter rack / hardware; Axis pedals; Evans drum heads; Vic Firth sticks..................................................... Upcoming Points North shows:May 31 Beale St Bar & Grill w/Blue 42 & Luvplanet ......June 21st World Music Day at Michel-Schlumberger Winery, Healdsburg, Ca................................. ..................June 28th '08 Broadway Studios SF, CA w/ Luvplanet........ ......Sept 5th Coasters Lounge, Santa Cruz, Ca w/ Ty Oliver

My Interests

Music (listening & playing), woodworking, reading, hiking, sex.

I'd like to meet:

I like to meet new people all the time but I'm not an aggressive 'celebrity chaser' if you know what I mean. I always look forward to meeting the musicians in the bands that Points North plays with and of course the people that come out to see them and us. Some of the people I wish I could meet are gone...H.L Mencken, Murray Rothbard, Alvin Boyd Kuhn just to name a few.

Music:

I grew up with the classic hard / prog rock of the 70's & 80's BOC, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, ELP, Rush, Be-Bop Deluxe (I'd love to do a cover of 'No Trains to Heaven' someday) and one of my all time faves, Camel. But it was instrumental music that attracted me most, from the surf days of the Ventures, the cool grooves of Booker T & the MG's to Ronnie Montrose and another all time fave, Steve Morse and the Dixie Dregs. When I discovered the likes of Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jean Luc Ponty etc., I was gone! Basically I like musician oriented music. I probably have more favorite guitar players than I do drummers!

Television:

I'd rather read or be out in the shop. Television rots the brain like a laser beam burning scar tissue off of your eyeball. That doesn't mean I don't watch it. When I'm in the mood for some brain rotting my laser beams of choice are Iron Chef America, Good Eats (don't mess with Alton!), Ace of Cakes (don't mess with Duff!), ((notice a food theme here)), Six Feet Under, New Yankee Workshop, baseball & football. One of my faves that isn't on anymore...Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Books:

I read lots of stuff, mostly non-fiction. Anything by H.L Mencken, Rothbard, Mises etc. I love old / rare books especially those that have markings made from owners gone by.

Heroes:

Rep Ron Paul, H.L Mencken, Murray Rothbard and all those who continue to fight for freedom and liberty in the face of ever mounting statism and government intervention. As H.L Mencken so aptly put it:"All government, in its essence, is a conspiracy against the superior man: its one permanent object is to oppress him and cripple him... The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable... H.L Mencken 1919------Government is essentially the negation of liberty - Ludwig von Mises-----The ballot is but a mere substitute for a bullet - Lysander Spooner
