With 12 years old Rafael started playing guitars and electric guitar with 14. In 1996, for one year and a half he had classes with Alexandre Lima, who would become his friend and bandmate. In the same period he played with the band Entropia for one year and a half, but decided to leave, due to musical differences, and started a new project called The Element.
The project was being created with Alexandre Lima, but the work really started only in 2000, when Rafael Pinarello, Mauricio Weimar and Cesar Lopes joined the band. In 2003 he joined the orchestral choir of OSPA (Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra), when he studied vocal technics with teacher Decápolis de Andrade and with maestro Manfredo Schmiedt, being part of many works like the Mahler 2º Symphony, Verdi Quattro Pezzi Sacri, Beethoven 9º Symphony, and others. He was guitarrist for Roll The Rush (Rush Cover), in 2003. Actually Rafael teaches guitar and musical theory.
