The Bashir Hameed Project was established by the children and grandchildren of the Original Black Panther Party (OBPP).
Using a concept that was first initiated by former Black Panther Party member Bashir Hameed, the Project seeks to secure and establish an Urban Youth Retreat Camp, which will be based on traditional Afrikan, Native-American, and Asian beliefs.
The Camp's primary objective will be to successfully bring "at-risk" urban youth through a "Rites of Passage Program," which is designed to provide these youth with the necessary tools to avoid the traps and pitfalls that are in our communities, and not become a victim of the United States Prison Industrial Complex. Its purpose is to also destroy the 'self-hatred mentality' the beholds many youth in our community, and build up their self-esteem, in order to make them believe and achieve their goals and dreams. The Safiya Bukhari-Albert 'Nuh' Washington Foundation has established a Speakers and Information Bureau in order to conduct lectures and training workshops for colleges & community programs in the inner-city.
The Foundation's Speakers Bureau consists of many distinguished speakers, who were activists and former political prisoners in the Black Liberation era during the 1960s and 1970s. The speakers discuss a variety of subjects, from the history of the Black Liberation Struggle, to life as a Political Prisoner and/or Prisoner of War. The primary goal is to educate the people about the pros and cons of the movement, and motivate them to continue the struggle.
