You'll instantly fall in love with this band, and this week you'll have two opportunities to experience Heirloom Projector. They're involved in Acoustic Philly, which helps promote various Philadelphia-based bands at multiple venues every month. Acoustic Philly has succeeded in catching my attention with this band, comprised of Erin Douglas (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Craig Maquire (guitar, vocals), Emi Oka (drums), and Brendan Maquire (bass). They began with Douglas and Oka in 2004 after the two ladies met in a literature class and through Oka, Douglas and Craig came to know one another in 2006. So goes the conception of Projector. Now with Brendan contributing, this Philly band has come together to produce some great Indie folk rock music for fans in this city and nationwide.Earlier this summer they independently released an EP entitled "Darkest Light", and already they have a sound that resonates like a band you've always known and loved. They're not signed yet, but they'll be scooped up soon enough. Especially after they participate in the Beta Hi-Fi Festival at the World Café, which runs from August 19-25. According to WCL's website: "Upstairs Live at World Cafe Live will continue the tradition of providing a platform for the best of Philadelphia’s Emerging Artists with a week-long showcase of the region’s finest… culminating in a line-up of over 30 performances throughout the week that will serve as a showcase for industry professionals as well as for fans looking to discover new artists." So be sure to check them out and vote for them! They kind of make me think of if Sonic Youth went folk, especially with the guitar in their song "Darkest Light" off the EP. Some songs I can't help but anticipate a banjo twanging in, but instead it's replaced by a rock guitar solo, and at other moments I half expect Kim Gordon to start chiming in. This band has brilliantly accomplished capturing the best of Indie rock and folk and combining the efforts to create Projector's unique presence. They're folk traditions wrapped up in Indie rock beats and guitars. Folk made for our time and for our city as Philadelphia's Indie folk rock scene is on the rise. Be sure to make it out to at least one of this band's shows and don't forget to vote!-Tiffany Yoon of "Breathe it out... and Let it in" www.yoonabomber.blogspot.com
