About Me

Born in Bristol TN now residing in Philly PA, John plays banjo and sings harmony and lead vocals. His playing can be traditional and hard driving, but he also has a driving melodic style and likes delving into new territory on the banjo.
After performing around Washington DC with Kevin Jones , he played with bands based in Switzerland and France ( Moonshine Bluegrass Band , Willy Wainwright, Bluegrass Avenue ) which took him around Europe in the 90s up to 2002. He was also the first banjo teacher at the Ecole des Technologies Musicales music school in Geneva.
Since returning to the US, he has been part of the PA based bands Chosen Passage, Lemon Hill and Ramblin Heart, and currently plays in Philadelphia's Flexible Flyer and The Stonethrowers . He has performed with Beppe Gambetta , the Frank Wakefield Band and the Depue Brothers with Mark Cosgrove . John lives in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia and does freelance editing in his spare time.
