John Henrik Clarke (January 1, 1915 - July 16, 1998), born John Henry Clark in Union Springs, Alabama to John (a sharecropper) and Willie Ella (Mays) Clarke (a washer woman), was a Pan-Africanist, author, poet, historian, journalist, lecturer and teacher. Clarke was the author of numerous articles that have appeared in leading scholarly journals. He also served as the author, contributor, or editor of 24 books. In 1968 along with the Black Caucus of the African Studies Association, Clarke founded the African Heritage Studies Association. In 1969 he was appointed as the founding chairman of the Black and Puerto Rican Studies Department at Hunter College in New York City. Clarke was most known and highly regarded for his lifelong devotion to studying and documenting the histories and contributions of African peoples in Africa and the diaspora. In his later life he traveled the world. Clarke was totally blind in his last remaining years. He expressed that he would like to be remembered as an educator."...History is not everything, but it is a starting point. Do not judge your brothers and sisters who resorted to suicide during the Middle Passage. Do not suppose they were the weakest or least resistant. They contributed to our survival in the malevolent birth of new life in the new world. They cleared the way for those of us who dwell in the land of exile. Those who dared to escape from captivity; from the bottomless pits of the slave ships; from the hostile swamps of the inhabitable forests; from the blistering plantations; from the sharecropper shacks; from the unyielding concrete of the cities.Have your children celebrate the suffering of those who gave their lives resisting. For these were the people who were forced to endure the unendurable; to live in "quiet refusal" against a life not worth living. Take your childrens' hands and honor the memory of our ancestors. Our distant mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews; our original family. The original people whose existence stretches back to a time before time. To a freedom before freedom. To a place where love and universal harmony rule.
In honoring their memory, we help the lost souls of the Atlantic seas find their way back home. Seas that are cursed with slaughterd spirits who achingly await ascension. The time has come for us to acknowledge their struggle, to be grateful for their sacrifice, and to carry their burdens on our wings until they can heal their broken spirits and return to the shores of their long-ago forgotten ancestors.
Remember and Honor the souls of the Middle Passage. Tell your children the truth about what happened. Now is not the time to forget; now is the time to remember..

Sophia Stewart (aka Zenia Kavala) is the author of a work titled The Third Eye. Stewart is a New Yorker who has resided in Salt Lake City for the past five years. In 2003 she unsuccessfully sued several people and organizations associated with THE MATRIX and THE TERMINATOR claiming they infringed on her work. However, because Stewart failed to appear for a preliminary hearing, her original lawsuit was dismissed in 2005.
Stewart filed her case in 1999, after viewing the Matrix, which she felt had been based on her manuscript, "The Third Eye," copyrighted in 1981. In the mid-eighties Stewart had submitted her manuscript to an ad placed by the Wachowski Brothers, requesting new sci-fi works. Stewart named the following persons in her complaint: Larry Wachowski and Andy Wachowski, Warner Bros., and Joel Silver, (responsible for The Matrix and its sequels/spinoffs) and Gale Ann Hurd, James Cameron, Hemdale Films and 20th Century Fox (responsible for Terminator and its sequels). Stewart seeks relief for copyright infringement, RICO violations, and supplemental state claims.According to court documentation, an FBI investigation discovered that more than thirty minutes had been edited from the original film, in attempt to avoid penalties for copyright infringement. The investigation also stated that "credible witnesses employed at Warner Brothers came forward, claiming that the executives and lawyers had full knowledge that the work in question did not belong to the Wachowski Brothers." These witnesses claimed to have seen Stewart's original work and that it had been "often used during preparation of the motion pictures."On October 4, 2004, the court granted Stewart leave to continue the case against the accused. Stewart's case was dismissed in June 2005 when she failed to show up for a preliminary hearing of her case. In a 53-page ruling, Judge Margaret Morrow of the Central District Court of California dismissed the suit, saying Stewart and her attorneys had not entered any evidence to bolster its key claims or demonstrated any striking similarity between her work and the accused directors' films. As of this writing, Stewart's case is no longer before the courts. She has announced that she does not plan to let the matter drop, so possibly this case will someday be re-filed and heard, but for now it is over.Some fans, are unaware of the case or they question its legitimacy, due to the fact that it has received little to no media coverage. Though the case was not made public until October of 2003, Stewart has her own explanation, as quoted at daghettotymz.com:"The reason you have not seen any of this in the media is because Warner Brothers parent company is AOL-Time Warner... this GIANT owns 95 percent of the media... let me give you a clue as to what they own in the media business... New York Times papers/magazines, LA Times papers/magazines, People Magazine, CNN news, Extra, Celebrity Justice, Entertainment Tonight, HBO, New Line Cinema, Dreamworks, Newsweek, Village Roadshow... many, many more!... They are not going to report on themselves. They have been surpressing my case for years..."Fans who have taken Stewart's allegations seriously, have found eerie mythological parallels, which seem significant in a case that revolves around the highly metaphorical and symbolic Matrix series. Sophia, the greek goddess of wisdom has been referenced many times in speculation about Stewart. In one book about the Goddess Sophia, it reads, "The black goddess is the mistress of web creation spun in her divine matrix."Although there have been outside implications as to racial injustice (Stewart is African American), she does not feel that this is the case. "This is all about the Benjamins," said Stewart. "It's not about money with me. It's about justice."Stewart's future plans involve a record label, entitled Popsilk Records, and a motion picture production company, All Eyez On Me, in reference to God. "I wrote The Third Eye to wake people up, to remind them why God put them here. There's more to life than money," said Stewart. "My whole message to the world is about God and good and about choice, about spirituality prevailing over 'technocracy'."Stewart believes that her lawyers are to blame for the state of her lawsuit, she explains on her website: "I want the people to know that the defendants have not only defrauded me… but with this great deception the entire world has been made a victim to this scam." She further explains her position and her refusal to give up and keep on with her suit.
