I have an existential map. It has You Are Here written all over it.

About Me

Here are the reasons I love to wake up every morning:
Other things about me that you may need to know: I'm addicted to live music. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right? The creation of music, the cohesion of a band, their connection with an audience, the culmination of hard work to perfect a performance... there's something about the entire process that moves me like nothing else. What else? I look forward to getting my YMCA membership so I can kick your ass at raquetball. I'm a good spellar. I am also sarcastic. Like a chameleon, I can blend in just about any environment, which means I can meet your parents at the country club then do keg stands across town at the frat house without skipping a beat. I'm a ..ary junkie. I will gladly help you move as I enjoy lifting heavy things. I'm dying to re-learn how to knit so I can make pretty scarves. I appreciate good stories. As I get older, I'm finding it almost impossible to hang out with really drunk people. I make noises now when I stand up... like "unnngh." Again, it's the old age setting in. I still manage to get behind slow drivers. What is it with this town and that phenomenon of driving 10 mph under the speed limit, anyway?
Political BS: Since the current administration has destroyed credibility with its own people as well as worldwide, I like to make a difference by participating in events organized by MoveOn.org .
I'm also a sucker for good dokumentaries that bother to ask the important questions. I highly recommend renting the following films. For the best results, allow them piss you off, and then do something about it.
Hacking Democracy
American Blackout
Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media
Uncovered: The War on Iraq
The Ground Truth: The Human Cost of War
The Corporation
Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price
Supersize Me
Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism
Other interesting tidbits:
I'm a proud vegan .
Some favorite web sites include:
Making fun of evangelicals
Making fun of our government
Making fun of the media

Movies:

I'm a dokumentary junkie. As for the rest? My taste is very mood dependent, thus the following eclectic mess: Lost in Translation, Harold and Maude, Little Miss Sunshine, The Mission, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Death & the Maiden, Heavenly Creatures, Schindler's List, The Piano, Donnie Darko, Birdcage, Buffalo '66, The Princess Bride, Dane Cook's DVD Harmful If Swallowed (only if you have a change of shorts handy), Drop Dead Gorgeous, Network, Magnolia, The Royal Tennenbaums, Thank You For Smoking, The Anchorman, Immortal Beloved, Spaceballs, Best In Show, Slingblade, This is Spinal Tap, Boys Don't Cry, Requiem For A Dream, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Breakfast Club, Goonies, Babe, anything Monty Python, anything Polanski or Kubrick... and yes, I liked Titanic.

Television:

I miss the Bob Ross painting show. I watched it fervently when I visited my grandma back in the day. His fan brushes were so... fanny. And those little fluffy, "happy" clouds? That was sweet. Plus I had a thing for older dudes. Bob was the bomb.Arrested Development was the best show ever. I have no need for TV anymore.

Books:

Existentialism and Post-modernism are my favorite genres, in addition to the fine selection of Harlequin romance novels tucked away under my matress. Favorite authors? Cormac McCarthy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, John Barth, Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, Robert Wright, Victor Hugo, Rebecca Solnit, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Philip Roth, Simone de Beauvoir, Danielle Steele (just kidding).

Heroes:

My husband, Mark. He's wise beyond his years, kind beyond measure, not to mention a hot rockin' musician. He will always do the right thing. And I will always love him for that. I also love him for putting up with me, which he does with a great deal of grace. I married the perfect human specimen.

My son, Connor. He makes me laugh, he makes me cry, he makes me look at my world through a less selfish pair of lenses. He's loving and brutally honest. He's a wonderful little person, even when he's being a pain in my ass.

If I can affect change in one person, it'll be worth posting this.
