About Me

Bio schmio. I prefer to use this space to say that I love writing and performing music more than anything in this whole wide world. I love words, I love the way they fit together and sometimes don't. I love staying up til 3 in the morning cause a song just wants to be born now, tonight, is buzzing like a hummingbird in the periphery of my awareness. I love music and the mysterious ways in which it makes sense of intangible things. I love the hearing of things that exist in some unknown beautiful dimension, and I love being the one who gets to pull them down like tufts of cotton candy and deliver them to the here and now. I love being the radio antenna for some station in Bum-Fuck Eternity, commercial-free, all-music-all-the-time. The most profound thing I've read recently is from Osho, a somewhat crazed and unorthodox being who said: "The biggest mistake you can make is to leave this life without having discovered your authentic self." The most profound thing I've experienced lately is that this is in fact true.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: namolibrennet.com
Band Members: Namoli Brennet and possibly some nameless celestial forces that keep passing along the good ideas.
Influences: Train noises, barking dogs, squeaky bicycles, etc.
Sounds Like: The distant whisper of a thousand ideas. Or, Patti Griffin meets Tom Waits. But then, more importantly, what happens AFTER they meet? Nobody ever asks those questions in a soundbite like this. Will there be a second date, were there sparks, etc, are they even compatible? By the way, THIS is what I sound like.

Hookers vs. Knitters

Given the choice, I will always be a hooker. Meaning, of course, that I will inevitably choose the smooth, streamlined, single-hook action of the crochet needle over the jabbing, poking action of the ...

Corn and other musings

Well, I've been on the road for a good 5 1/2 weeks now, and rather than bore you with the mundane details of 8000 miles of driving, I thought I might share a few quirky highlights, and perhaps give yo...

Caffeine = Productivity

As many of you may already know, I have had what could best be described as an ambivalent relationship with caffeine for several years. Many people describe the wonders of their caffeine obsession: ho...

Speeding: A short novel

So this weekend, I flew into New York so I could drive up to Albany and play at Capital Pride. As fate would have it, my girlfriend Casey is doing an internship at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, so ...

Tis a load of Blarney

I can't imagine anything more appropriate: St. Patty's day is fast approaching, and here I find myself in Dublin! It's everything I remembered it to be - rolling green hills, musical accents, charisma...

Genetically Modified crafts!

Friends, the other day I purchased a quart of (non-organic) strawberries. They were quite tasty, but as I dug in I started to suspect that they might be genetically modified. This was because one of t...

Where are the Bubbles

Like many of us today, I find myself concerned with the state of the environment. But instead of making biodiesel or taking fewer cross-country flights, I choose to make my contribution by buying envi...

Immortality and Super Glue

Here in the west, it's quite trendy, if not downright mandatory, to work a little eastern spirituality into your life. Perhaps doing Yoga? A little meditation? If nothing else, stopping by your local ...
