"Hello, I'm Orion Kribs."
(like you know... the way Johnny Cash used to do it) In January of 2008, my song "Lipstick Stains" was released on a 3-disc compilation of North Country artists, made possible by North Country Public Radio and a $330,000 grant from the New York State Music Fund. "Music Heard UpNorth is a compilation of the best songs recorded during a year-long tour of (NCPR's) listening area." I grew up in New York on the southern edge of the Adirondack Park, in a small town called Corinth, near Saratoga Springs. After high school, I moved to Oneonta, NY, where I studied Music Industry, Audio Arts Production, and Anthropology. It's a weird mix right? Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, I spent some time in 2007 studying Music Management in Hultsfred, Sweden, through the University of Kalmar's Baltic Business School at Rock City. I'm back home now, playing music and planning my next big move.
I've spent my life surrounded by music and professional musicians. I guess it rubbed off on me a bit, because I kind of have a soft spot for music. My father (www.JohnKribsMusic.com) really got me started, and taught me the fundamentals of what I know. Sometimes, you can hear a lot of similarities in our styles. Seeing us perform together is a special treat.
I began sitting in with my father's bands when I was 14, playing guitar and bass. Now I perform solo-acoustic, as well as with my father, and the band Delia . I also perform with various blues/rockabilly and jam bands when the opportunity arises.
More recently, I joined Albany-area band Justice Once, now known as Black Mountain Symphony . I'm pleased to be playing with this group of talented musicians, and I'm enjoying it immensely. Keep an eye on the calendar for performances.
If you enjoy my music, let me know, and recommend it to others. In fact, let me know what you think even if you don't like it. Cheers!
