Keeping myself amused. In the past this has involved scuba, Kendo, archaeology, archery, astronomy, classical trombone, electric bass, Tang Soo Do, and plotting the horrific demise of people who walk slowly in tube stations on my way into work. Heavy metal is also rather significant in my life. Oh, and...
That's very presumptuous, but mostly rockers, metalheads, freaks, circus performers, jousters, artisans, astronomers, disgruntled archaeologists, general fans of Forteana, kenshi, and the cast and crew of Battlestar Galactica.
Too much to list. Take Verdi, Rachmaninoff, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, MC5, Black Sabbath and extrapolate from there. I also enjoy showtunes. And lying.
Too much to list. I'm more likely to pick Evil Dead over Breakfast At Tiffany's. I'm confident Jean Renoir would support my decision.
Shows that come to mind are Battlestar Galactica, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck, CSI (Vegas owns New York: fact), Heroes, Dexter, Firefly, Farscape, Star Trek (except Voyager and Enterprise), Black Adder, Cadfael, Sherlock Holmes, The Daily Show, BBC News 24, or really whatever the fuck happens to be on.
The first good one when I started this profile was 'I, Lucifer': Satan's personal diary while on a holiday in London. Funny as fuck. More recently 'Children Of Hurin' was no 'Silmarillion' but it got the job done. Also, 'High Concept: Don Simpson and the Hollywood Culture Of Excess ' recently made Motley Crue sound like a bunch of ninnies. Baudrillard's 'The Vital Illusion' is balanced out the nihilism of Chuck Palahniuk's 'Lullaby' very nicely. At present, I finally cracked Neil Gaiman's 'Neverwhere'. Made me want to hang up my writing spurs and bake bread for a living. I bought his 'Fragile Things' instead, and moved onto Richard Dawkins' 'The God Delusion'. Christ it was good. Right now though it's all about getting caught up on 'Y The Last Man', and 'Cochrane: The Life and Exploits of a Fighting Captain', by Robert Harvey. It's about the real-life inspiration for Master And Commander. It's put my life in perspective.
Gore Vidal, Miyamoto Musashi, Patrick Moore, Bruce Lee, Alan Moore, Bruce Campbell, Frank Zappa, and Sylvester Stallone obviously.
