Nasty Tek was originally formed in July 1993 after newly migrated East London sound system operator & MC, Mikey Glamour linked up with long time Sydney sound system selectors/promoters Prince Andrew & Brent Clough; whose involvement in Sydney's Reggae scene goes back to the mid-80's when Brent established 'Splashdown', Sydney's longest running show on radio 2SER FM 107.3.
Since Nasty Tek was formed, they have had a series of live sound system tapes sold across North America and Europe, peaking at 2 on the U.K. & U.S. sound tape charts, 2nd only to Jamaican super sound 'Stone Love'. Nasty Tek have also been and still remain the feature attraction & promoters of the most highly successful Dancehall/Reggae events in Sydney and have supported & worked with a number of local & international acts, some of which include: Sly & Robbie, Luciano, Mikey General, Ricky Trooper, Spearhead, Macka B & The Mad Professor, Lukie D, Jack Radics, Horace Andy, Peter Hunningale, Tippa Irie, Michael Rose, Iration Steppas, Steel Pulse and many more.
In January 2006, Nasty Tek were responsible for the first Australian Reggae Sound Summit, an event which would bring together the best sound from the capital city of each state for a Dancehall/Reggae extravaganza. The event was a huge success & has now become a touring yearly celebration.
Early 2006 saw Nasty Tek then consisting of the Prince & Mikey, acquire the young Caribbean/Australian MC Laylo who brought his unique style & influence from his Caribbean background & time spent in North America. Laylo is said to be "the future of the Tek" & all eyes are on him to take Nasty Tek further into the Millenium.
Like the past, the future for Nasty Tek is looking bright, and building on a foundation of local & international experience, Nasty Tek has established a reputation as the cutting edge of Reggae & Dancehall culture in Australia.
