About Me

Werner Fischer grew up at the foot of the Swiss Alps before video killed the radio star. Hearing the Beatles sing & Bob Dylan cough made him pick up the guitar & form his first band at the tender age of eleven. Influenced by the rich rythmic & harmonic approaches of Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin & Frank Zappa his playing soon evolved into more fusion-type styles. It was not until long that he was ready for the music of "real" jazz musicians like Miles Davis, John Coltrane or Charles Mingus - an experience which expanded his horizon for good.
Ever since, Werner Fischer’s musical tastes & his career have been eclectic, meandering between the musical fields of Folk, Pop & Jazz. So at one time or other he could be seen performing Folk- & Pop-classics together with Tom Etter (ZÃœRI WEST) as ARTHUR & BALTHASAR, Bluegrass with THE FOGGY COTTON TOYS (with singer Gabi Fischer & violinist Matthias Lincke), or Klezmer with SONOMUNDO.
In the mid-1980s he led & arranged for the 17-piece-Salsa-unit GUATUZO, & formed the more funk-oriented QUARKNETT together with reed player Hermann BÃ¼hler & drummer Gabriel Schiltknecht. During the 1990s he fronted the widely acclaimed Folk-Pop-group STARFISH on their countless live performances throughout Switzerland & Northern Europe. Their playing hits on Swiss national radio included classics like "Rain Comes Falling Down" and "Three Young Ladies".
All this time, Werner continued to play Jazz: He performed and recorded in several projects by composer/pianist Udo Fink, formed duos with vocalists Rahel Hadorn and Gabi Fischer, and with saxophonist JÃ¼rg Wickihalder. He was a long term member of Sam TrÃ¼mpy’s JAZZ COALITION & the driving force behind CALLING CARD, a trio with drummer/vibist Dominik Burger & bassist Fridolin Berger.
After three years of deepening his musical insights at the Boston-based Berklee College of Music he returned to Switzerland in 2003 with a bag full of original compositions, some of which he recorded for his album "Eastbound" (now available on iTunes & also on FINETUNES ).
In 2004 he led his FISCHER-WICKIHALDER JAZZ COALITION on a tour to the People’s Republic of China. In 2007 he initiated the SAM TRÃœMPY MEMORIAL JAZZ COALITION , a transatlantic octet celebrating the music of the late tenorist.
His current working bands are THE BOUNCING BITS , SCHNAYDER’S CABIN CREW , ALL STANDARD GUITARS , THE ALL STANDARD JAZZ TRIO and DAVE’S BAG .
He has recently performed with Swiss jazz artists such as singers Janet Dawkins, Mya N, Barbara Balzan, Marianne Racine, Rahel Hadorn, saxophonists Bruno Spoerri, JÃ¼rg Wickihalder, Thomi Geiger, Reto Suhner, Jonas Knecht, Rodrigo Botter Maio, Christoph Grab, drummers Gabriel Schiltknecht, Lukas Landis, Dominik Burger, Tony Renold - and with international stars like Sophie DunÃ©r, Roman Dylag, Alain ’Dodzi’ Apaloo, Alexandre CÃ´tÃ© & FÃ©lix StÃ¼ssi.
