Cris Mora was born and raised in Curitiba, Brazil. She began singing in church at the age of 6 with her twin sister, Noemi. Around the same time their mother gave the girls competitive songwriting exercises, piano lessons and they listened to lots of different types of music. At 16 she became involved with the rapidly growing “underground music†scene in Curitiba, making beats and melodies, writing and singing a style of bossa nova infused with funk music.
Cris came to America at the age of 19 and soon after, she met a young Brazilian guitar player named Muisek. They began composing, fell in love, married and together with their mutual friend, JAMBA, composed and recorded the first track of her forthcoming CD, “Ritmo Basicoâ€. With it's infectious rhythm and tasteful production (produced by JAMBA), this song is sure to become a timeless classic.
Drawing from influential artists like Chico Buarque, Dori Caymmi, Tom Jobim, Los Hermanos, Ed Motta, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, India Arie, Brooke Fraser, Imogen Heap, Elis Regina and Diana Krall, Cris Mora is developing a style all her own.
Infused with inspiration from jazz, Brazilian classics, funk and several other styles of music, the messages in her songs contain powerful themes… she sings of peace, love, joy and simplicity in our daily lives. Her lyrics mostly speak of inner beauty, love, friendship and blissful relationships. It is Cris's hope that when people hear her music they end up feeling reassured and understood.
