Nesin Howhannesijan Trio ---------
The members of the trio are Ernst Bier on drums, Kelvin Sholar on piano and Nesin Howhannesijan on bass. The different cultural backrounds of the three musicians shape the sound of their compositions. They merge elements from different musical traditions and create new, forms of jazz.
Armenian melodies are meeting classical music and jazz-harmonies.
The trio has an organic sound which is soft and full bodied. It combines virtuosity with melodicism. ---------
Bios --------
Nesin Howhannesijan is born in Berlin, Germany. He is classically trained. He started playing Violine from age 6. Later on he switched to Double Bass. He studied with David Clark, Dave Santoro, Bruce Gertz, Paul Del Nero Dieter Ilg... He played in several orchestras (Boston Conservatory, Neues Sinfonieorchester Berlin..) , big-bands and small groups in the US and Europe. He earned his diploma at Berklee in 2003.

Ernst Bier studied drums with Billy Brooks, Charlie Persip, Vernell Fournier and Elvin Jones. He played and lived in NYC from 1982-1987. After returning back to Germany he lived in Cologne and settled in Berlin, where he leads workshops on a regular basis. The list of musicians he worked with is like a Who..s Who of jazz. With his creative and sensitive playing, Ernst Bier developed into a highly demanded drummer on the German Jazz- Scene. ---------
Kelvin Sholar, has performed on several international television shows and web broadcasts in Europe and the US. He played with The New York City Ballet, Ron Carter, Brandford Marsalis, Greg Osby, Frank Wess, Bobby Watson, Lenny White, Kenny Garrett, Ronnie Cuber, Roy Hargrove, John Faddis etc. In 2007 he moved to Berlin.
Kelvin was awarded several times: Winner of the Michigan Bach Festival Competition in 1990, IAJE Otstanding musician in Montreaux / Detroit Jazz Festival 1993, Outstanding pianist at The Clark Terry Jazz Camp 1994, Outstanding musicianship /Wichita Jazz Festival 1995 and 1996.
