“On first hearing, you’d think Lorraine Jordan is all heart and rhythm. Her songs, her playing, her singing are simply infectious. Listen again and her sharp-edged intelligence and clear-eyed perceptions become apparent. There’s structure there, too, but the bones don’t show because we’re so swept up in the emotion. There we are again, back to the heart.” Marilyn Rea-Beyer, Music Director, WUMB Folk Radio (Boston, USA)

“This Big Feeling is a masterful blending of the best elements of contemporary and traditional Celtic music, tied with ribbons of harmony, brought from a soul steeped in generations of musical excellence.” New England Entertainment Digest (USA)

Band Website: lorrainejordan.net
Band Members: Varies - either solo or with band. People who have graced my band in the past have included Tony McManus (guitar), Steafan Hannigan (irish pipes, flutes, bodhran etc), Niall O'Callanain (irish bouzouki), Pete Garnet (accordion), Mairi Campbell (viola, fiddle), Gill Hunter (piano/accordion), Tim O'Leary (fiddle). I've recently been working with pianist Steve Fletcher (previously with Paul Brady) and Davide Giovanni on drums/percussion (previously and on-going with Steve Winwood).
Influences: From a young age I was influenced by bands like Planxty, the Bothy Band, Moving Hearts, and singers like Mary Black and Delores Keane, along with the singing of my older sister Phil, who taught me many of my favourite ballads. Many years of living and playing in Scotland, and joining in some of the supurb sessions in various haunts in Edinburgh have brought me a great appreciation of Scottish music and song. I could be here all day naming other sources of inspiration, and those who possibly have had an influence in my music, since I believe we're influenced by just about everything we listen to in one way or another...so I'll just mention a few people who spring to mind from the top of my head, such as Joan Armatrading, Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox, Cat Stevens, John Martyn, Paul Brady, Dick Gaughan, Christy Moore, Dougie McLean, Richard Thompson and a whole host of others.
