About Me

Myspace Layouts
I am the author of a Mother’s Journal, Let My Children Go!, and the founder and president of Kourts for Kids, a 501(c)3 organization, whose mission is to find ways to better protect abused children in the family courts and to promote change within regions where protection can be improved. I kicked off Kourts for Kids in 2004 with a 518 mile walk on the historical Trail of Tears. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life and has led me to become an avid agent for social change.I have a powerful and diverse background in marketing and management, was a licensed financial planner, traveled the S.E. as a regional manager for medical products, managed 2400 flight attendants with Northwest Airlines, and worked with United Way in Michigan as manager of marketing and government relations. My greatest challenge in life has been being a mother and protecting my daughters from their sexually abusive father and the actions of the court. Now seven years separated from my precious daughters, I have learned much about the law and more importantly, I have learned how to stand strong and firm. Our thoughts and words bring life or death. I now speak and think only “life” over these situations. Even though I am not physically with my children, we are spiritually connected. I am my children’s mother and will continue to do everything in my power to cause them to grow and become prosperous, healthy, and wise young women. We tell children to disclose abuse, and when they do and experts substantiate it, we trust the legal system will protect them. In truth, it doesn’t always work this way when the abuser is the parent. Increasingly, when the family court gets involved, abused children are revictimized and placed into very dangerous and destructive situations.I am a loving mother who misses her children greatly. Every day I am becoming a more and more powerful visionary, healer, and woman of faith.

My Interests

UPCOMING CALENDAR OF EVENTSNCADV’s 13th National Conference on Domestic Violence: Building Grassroots Leadership for Social Justice, July 18-23, 2008 in Washington, DC at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.Workshop Title: Family Court Crisis - Abusers Getting Child Custody This workshop will begin with a moving and informative presentation by a protective mother who has lost custody and all contact with her children to her abuser, despite abundant evidence that her children were being sexually abused by him. Next will be a presentation to discuss the causes of this broadscale national problem - including an analysis of the institutionalized sexism and other systemic factors that bring it about. The workshop will end with an interactive discussion about actions that can be taken by protective mothers, local service providers and court professionals to identify protective mothers in the community and to support them and effect system change. Resources will be provided to aid in community organizing and support efforts.
