Although nowadays he is best known for playing bass in the Dave Rowe Trio, Kevin has been pushing the boundaries of bass guitar for many years with his solo music. Kevin O'Reilly's music touches many genres but is defined by none. Kevin can layer his songs with loops, drown them in effects, play a solo piece or play with a full band. He insists on exploring and learning different musical styles and that has led to numerous strange journeys. FACE magazine claimed that "O'Reilly makes you see through your ears." FACE also said: "O'Reilly is to be commended for pushing the bass guitar beyond where whoever created it in the first place imagined it might go."
Highlights in Kevin's career have included playing in bands with Steeplejack founder and solo artist Andy Sullivan, one-time Big Nazoo Puppet Theater member Jeremy Woodward and classical guitarist/lute player Seth Warner. Kevin played with the group Love Cactus in the early '90's and gained recognition with his song 'Divebomber', '...one of the catchiest local songs these days ' as the Portland Press Herald put it.
In 1995 Kevin began seriously exploring the idea of solo music, which led to solo pieces for bass guitar. Those explorations resulted in his first CD Acidron, released in 1998. Kevin followed that up with a second CD The View From Left Field in 2000. Kevin's work has been highly praised by a variety of magazines and online publications.
Kevin's CDs Acidron and The View From Left Field are now available for download at iTunes. Please be sure to check them out as well as his work with the Dave Rowe Trio at daverowetrio.com!
