Special Note about out MySpace Page:
If you'd like to send a message you want or need a responce to please send it to our email: [email protected] We don't check this that often, although we think it's a cool idea, we're not "into" the rock star pyramid sceme that is MySpace. We don't go fishing for friends, or hits, nor think this will magically transport us directly to the top. Please do add us as your friends if you like our music, or we will add you if we stumble across you and think you're cool, but don't worry, we don't "spam" for friends.
Band Bio:
Elroy is a 4 piece band that play a variety of music, from country tinged Americana to 60's style Garage Rock, everything in between, as well as many things that arent; sometimes quiet sometimes loud, always Elroy.
The band was founded in September 2001, and quickly recorded and released their first EP, the 5 song garage rock tinged, Dont Buy It volume I. As suggested in the name of the CD the CD was available free of charge at shows, and as downloads on their web site. Also there was a double entendre in the name referring to the sad state of the record industry in general, making it a better idea to give away music then to try to run it through the music mill. Since then, Elroy has always offered subsequent 5 song free downloadable EPs on their website. Elroy always encourages the sharing of their music between friends and over the Internet.
The band has also released two traditionally packaged and marketed CDs. Their debut, Elroy is an 11 song, all analog, mid-fi guitar rock album, peppered with a bit of Folk and Country. Their second CD The Case For Going To The Moon is considered a pop-ier nod to the Beatles, rather then the first CDs invocation of the Stones, with pianos, organs, ukulele, and wide acoustic 12 string strums. What all Elroy recordings have in common is all the songs are recorded using classic acoustic and electric (not electronic) instruments.
The group was founded by and is fronted by singer and songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Marc McElroy. Aside from being a vehicle for his song writing, the band serves another purpose. The members of the band were not only chosen for their musicianship, but for their friendship, and the band is truly a group with a mission to play music and enjoy doing it. Guitarist Charlie Kickham has combined his bar band resume and love of folk music into distorted Les Paul arpeggios, and his solos are tinged with both blues-rock and Bill Frizzell. Bassist Brian Coleman loves Mingus, but spends his time in Elroy searching for elegant simplicity and round notes that anchor the songs. Drummer Adam Doiron balances the need for a constant beat with an off-beat love for the Velvet Underground, like Maureen Tucker and even Ringo Starr before him, it sound really simple, until you really listen.
The songwriting of Marc McElroy is rooted in his youngest years listening to the radio like some other kids watched TV. There in the 70s and early 80s, in front of Radio Shack brand speakers, his love for 60s and 70s classic rock and classic R&B was forever forged. The bands arrangements and performances are likewise classically rooted in the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Band, the Velvet Underground, Van Morrison, and the whole of Motown. However these influences cant be heard overtly upon first listening, but form the foundation on which the music is built.
Elroy is here to say, Rock is not dead. In an era where Rock success can no longer be marked by big record company advances, and cover of the Rolling Stone acclaim, Elroy has made a cottage industry out of creating their own kind of Rock music on their own terms.
