About Me
Born in 1966 in Catania (Italy), Francesco Calì is graduated in classical piano and classical composition.
He has been invited three times to the Biennale of young artists from Europe and Mediterranean (Rome - 1999; Turin - 2000; Sarajevo - 2001), where he performed as a soloist with the European Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Furio Di Castri.
In 2000, as a composer, he won the international contest Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes, obtaining a scholarship for Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium of Copenhagen.
In 2003 he won the 3rd prize in the international choir composer's competition "Waterworks" (www.hymnia.dk).
In 2005 he was invited to compose (together with poet Jeppe Marsling) a Human Rights Hymn by Institute for Human Rights. The Hymn has been premiered on United Nations International Human Rights Day, at the Royal Theatre, in Copenhagen.
As a composer and performer he is presently active in different music genres (classical, jazz, pop, rock).
