About Me

I started playing the guitar at about the age of 12. I heard this lorry driver playing a Gibson Kalamzoo and singing South of the Border Down Mexico way. He was parked up and sitting with the door open playing and singing away. He spotted me and asked me if I wanted to try playing the guitar. In those days, if you played the guitar you were probably a Cowboy or a Spaniard. This man (David Langdon) became my mentor for my early music years and we played in pubs all around the area earning considerable sums for those days when they passed round the hat for us. Nobody seemed to care then how young I was to be in bars. Skiffle hadn't hit the street yet and rock and roll was yet to be invented. Later I played in several Skiffle groups and frequented the newly set up coffee bars in Soho such as the 2 i's. While wandering around Charing Cross area one night I happened upon a cafe called the Gyre and Gimble known as the Gs. This was my introduction to folk music and to several people in the folk scene who are still my friends.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
