Jeannie Steel

About Me

Jeannie Steel has been singing since she can remember, as a child she put on concerts in her father’s shed with her brother and sister. Being a true Scot, they charged the local kids a halfpenny each (old money). She became interested in folk music in the late fifties, when she moved to London from Scotland. She met her husband and future singing partner Martin Winsor, in the early sixties and they ran The Student Prince and The Poles Apart together, also the Troubadour with the irreplaceable Redd Sullivan. She appears on “hosts of The Troubadour” album. Jeannie and Martin toured Europe in the seventies and eighties, one memorable tour with a London Routemaster bus, to promote tourism in the UK unfortunately this bus no longer in use. They played many gigs in Germany and met up with old friends Colin Wilkie and Shirley Hart, also touring Europe with friends Gurnemanz and John Makin as Folk Omnibus. They recorded a country and folk album with friend, musician and producer Dave Travis. Sadly Martin and Redd died in 1992 only two months apart, missed by all who knew them. Jeannie has moved several times, but is now living happily in her beloved Scotland. this layout is from whateverlife.com!
